  • What's the difference between a relevant car and an irrelevant one? If OP wants to spend £30K on a trendy SUV then surely it's relevant to them, as much as it's relevant to somebody else spending £30K on a convertible/sports car?

The question the OP's posed is one I'm pondering as well as those two are by far and away the best premium brand 4x4's at present unless you want a the slightly bigger Disco Sport (which is the Freelander replacement based on the Evoque rather than a re-badge), it seems the car mags are favouring the X1 on performance etc but suggesting the Evoque will be worth thousands more come resale time, although you do wonder if that will be the case in a couple of years time if the new X1 is as good as it appears?

For me the X1 wins on ability the Evoque on looks and forecast resale value.

Finally, I'm on my 3rd Freelander and each one as done 50K+ miles with no major issues.

Both X1 and evoque seem like pointless cars and most the ones round here are driven buy !!!!!!. Would also include all range rovers and most bmws but X1, x5 and x6 seem the worst

    If you want a 4x4 get a 4x4

All of the fords listed serve a different purpose 4x4, small car, people carrier.
    Fair enough.

Can't say Evoque drivers that I have seen in and around London drive that differently to other drivers.

I would point out that somebody that drives an old shape Sport on a 57plate with a chavvy private plate, bought with high miles on HP and runs it on a shoestring, you can usually see the HiFly tyres, is slightly different to somebody that paid £70k brand new for one a couple of years ago and drives and maintains it correctly.

For some people a large 4x4 does have a specific purpose, wether they need it for towing or indeed t is used as a Ram car for Close Protection.

If I was a millionaire living in London I would drive a Range Rover and I don't see why I would have to apologise for that.

    The X1 wins on ability?

    Ability to do what?
  • Reading this head to head, I really can't see how they place the X1 first?

The ability to win a car mag road test? Where ever that's good enough for the OP is for them to decide.

Assuming the OP intend buying the car new and running it as their own personal car then if they keep it for the average 3 years and do the average 12K miles p.a. it's probably good enough for them.

If they are looking at covering more miles then perhaps a fuel guzzling SUV is not the ideal car for them anyway?
