Hi Dan,
I was referring to the issues posted over the last couple of days including my own which seems a duplicate of the deposit issues that people were having with the Sainsburys collective switch at the start of the year. Just a little sillier as I'm an existing British Gas (Sainsburys) customer. As I said that appears to be sorted now and my energy account is set up with British Gas following a complaint directly to them.
So wait and see what happens with the cash back then? I hope that there will be some mechanism in place for me to claim the money should British Gas not pay out for the switch due to their manual intervention. The issue that occurred was down to British Gas' silliness and it would be a shame on me to lose out on the cash back incentive through something that wasn't my fault
Hi Davethorp
I agree, it does sound strange for you to be asked for a security deposit if you're already supplied by British Gas. Good to hear that you challenged this.
If British Gas don't automatically confirm your switch through Cheap Energy Club, you can email us and we'll escalate this for you to try and track down the payment. That said, given that the tariff is only available via Cheap Energy Club/MoneySuperMarket I'd be surprised if there were problems as it should be reconciling this at a tariff level.
Hope this helps to reassure you.0 -
Just to let people know, Matt BG rep emailed me regarding issues, he issued a new statement from yesterday to try and kick start system, he said it was unlikely to work, and it hasn't, tech guys now are looking at it. Got to say BG seem to have a lot of tech problems on accounts, 2 months ago they could not take my direct debit due to issues with site, will let everyone know if things improve

I am on the Sainsbury/BGas tariff and am thinking of switching to this new one. But I have just applied for the warm Home discount through them, as a friend has told me that, tho I am not on benefits, I have an annual income less that £16K and eligible. I am awaiting a reply to my application.
Their T&Cs say that if I swap suppliers I lose the eligibility. As the supplier is the same-British gas- would I lose it ? If they say I can have the £141 discount, then I switch to this new scheme, would I have to repay it after I switch (if I do) ?
I don't know yet if I qualify but if I do, the loss of the £141 will wipe out any savings on my bills, even with the cashback.

Hi Morgana, if your application is accepted, you'll still get the Warm Homes Discount if you switched and it would be added to your new account. Thanks, MattI am the official company representative of British Gas. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. I was already a British Gas dual fuel customer on a standard tariff.
I had always been to lazy to change until now. Changing over to the Collective Fix tariff could not have been easier and I am saving over £250 a year. The only thing that annoyed me was that BG did not reduce my monthly direct debit to reflect the reduction.
I had to do this by a phone call to customer service. All is now well.
If, like me, you have never changed your supplier or tariff, just do it. It didn't hurt a bit.0 -
That's a thought Bordeline6. Do I stop the Sainsbury/BGas DD and with for BG to start the new one or will they do it ? Can you clarify that Matt ?0

British Gas will set up a new one when the account switches to BG from Sainsburys. If you keep the Sainsburys one active for now as they'll refund any credit balance through it rather than sending a cheque.0
