Recently arrived in UK and trying to switch to BG. Online questionnaire says need to contact supplier but BG say must clear with MSE, but how. Anyone solved this problem?:(0

A few questions about the tariff. I'm currently with E.On.
* Will customers switching to this tariff be eligible for new smart meters (insomuch as they would with any other tariff)
* Economy 7 appears to be available too -- if I didn't have that currently and wanted to switch is there typically meter charge? is that also still precluding smart meters (I've only found OVO saying they have e7 compatible smart meters)
* The BG strategy for off-peak energy seems to be new flexibile tariffs supported by smart metering like the 4 hr peak one.. I think that's the right direction. Is there a variation on that tariff offered as collective?
The reason? I have an electric car, so not far off 50% of my electricity comes from charging. A guess at 20% being forced daytime rather than night might give me 40% E7 usage, which is borderline for any savings. I do like the idea of the off-peak rate flexibility but the prices seem trounced by the collective deal? What goes around - comes around

Hi Jessmist, both tariffs should have changed over at the same time. If you can email your details to talktous@britishgas.co.uk, with the subject heading 'Money Saving Expert' I'll take a look into this for you. Hi all,
I'm having my British Gas prepayment smart meters removed today by British Gas so I can go on a monthly plan with them then changing to sainsburys for a cheaper deal. British Gas have told me this is fine but I would need to wait a week (I think) after the new standard meters are fitted before I can setup with sainsburys. Now I have seen this collective deal does anyone know if I can apply today? or can I call british gas to chat about this deal?
EDIT: Spoke with British Gas, I need to wait till the Grid is updated to show I have monthly meters installed and this can take time. She says to ring back in two weeks, which I work out to be the exact day this finishes lol, my fault though for taking two years to get off these prepayment meters!0 -
Well that's good. Remember all the deposit issues people were having with the Sainsburys collective switch. Well they've just got sillier.
Already with Sainsburys Energy (so technically British Gas) and have been since February this year paying by monthly direct debit. Today I've got a letter saying to call as they needed to discuss my payment method with me and been told when I called that they wanted a deposit of £120 on the electric and £90 on the gas to switch to a cheaper tariff. With essentially the same company.
Ludicrous!
Just to update on this I emailed a complaint to British Gas shortly after this occurred. I haven't had a full response yet other than to ask for details of the tariff I was switching on to however a brand new sales order is now showing up in my British Gas account for each fuel and an Energy account is as well so it's looking like it's being sorted.
Hopefully this messing around doesn't screw up my £30 cash back though0 -

I'm already a BG customer and I had an email from them a week ago to say my new gas tariff is up and running. Have just called BG and was advised to switch the electricity again as something should have happened by now. How would I do this? Not through the energy club as it says I already have a switch in progress. What advice have others in this position been given? Its been about 10 days since I applied to switch.
