No doubt after they've forced everyone/billions of people onto Windows 10, they'll introduce a yearly subscription, and if you don't pay your computer will cease functioning?

Nobody is forced to use Windows, there's good alternatives out there. MS will shoot themselves in the foot if they get too aggressive.

  • Anyone still using Windows Xp?

I upgraded last year and have no issues. It is a choice. Though I note my android tablet of three years has never been updated!
  • There are of course those who have say a dell Inspiron 620 and dell state
Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade

Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.
and as such the nags never appear. However despite this I have installed 10 on said machine :p

I've also installed 10 on an old Dell which they didn't say was supported.

It's possible that it's too expensive for Dell to properly test old devices so they just duck the issue. It's an interesting way to avoid the nagging though.

How many of you thought that Windows 7 would continue to receive MS support until 2020 ?
Well, MS, in their wisdom have decided to only support Win 7 until 2020 - as long as you don't alter any hardware on the PC !!
It's not quite true to say you can't alter *any* hardware.

My understanding is that Microsoft won't support earlier Windows versions on new machines specifically with latest generation of processors (eg. 'Skylake' and equivalents from AMD etc.).

But as I understand it you can change other hardware as much as you like - SSDs, RAM upgrades etc.

And in any case most users have OEM Windows licences, so if they changed the processor would probably need to change the motherboard too, and therefore need to go out and buy a new Windows licence in any case. So even before this change, in this scenario their old Windows 7 licence would be no good to them.

Yes but not on a regular basis. It is on my "spare" set up. I only fire it up to transfer or look at old files. No problems ........... so far!

FYI "This update installs the Get Windows 10 app that helps users understand their Windows 10 upgrade options and device readiness. For more information about Windows 10, see Windows 10."

EDIT: PS if you already have the GWX Control Panel this update won't bother you. http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html

It's there on my Windows 7 x32 workstation this morning as well. These bloody idiots at Microsoft just don't give up do they. For the umpteenth time it has been marked hidden.
