There is a handy tool called GWX control panel, which will search and remove all traces of windows 10 and therefore stop all the nagging to upgrade
    http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html

I came across this in another post on this site and ran it yesterday.

It's quite comprehensive and seems to have done the trick.
  • Presumably all this rubbish of trying to trick you into installing Win 10 by stealth will suddenly stop come 29 July 2016 when Win10 upgrades from 7/8 ceases to be free.
Hopefully we will then be left in peace.

I notice that Microsh*t are not trying this Win 10 upgrade game on Win7 Enterprise edition users - no, no - they know on which side their bread is buttered and sending the corporate users of win 7 incandescent with fury is not a good plan.

Just to be clear, these are the Windows updates that need to be uninstalled (if indeed they are already installed) to prevent Windows 10 nagging and background download ...

    Windows 7 Machine ...
    KB3035583
    KB2952664
    KB3021917

    Windows 8/8.1 Machine ...
    KB3035583
    KB2976978

and change Windows Update settings from Automatic to Notify Me ... then you have a chance to clobber these updates if they show up again.

Of course, knowing how unscrupulous Microsoft is, they'll probably reintroduce this unwanted garbage under different update numbers in due course. You have to keep on your toes. ;)

Thanks for the information, I found the 3 updates for Win 7 on my laptop, uninstalled them and hid the updates (after changing from automatic download) but KB 2952664 keeps cropping up installed as an update that I have downloaded. I have uninstalled it 3 times today but it's still there!!! Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to stop it appearing?
Please use simple explanations as I'm not that tech savvy but can follow instructions .

I don't want it updated, and feel MS should acknowledge that fact. When I have assurances that all the software and peripherals I want to run will be compatible with 10, I will probably buy a computer that runs it.
Until then I will stick with 7.
Hurrah, I was going to post exactly that comment until I saw yours. I want free drivers (granted they generally are) if they exist. I will want my printer replacing, my old scanner that I use for transferring negatives to PC, a copy of MSMoney that works EXACTLY like the one I have now, Photoshop software that works with W10 ................ Until then LEAVE ME ALONE!

Yep, I had an issue a couple of weeks ago when an update arrived that would not let me get out of downloading and installing 10. Thanks to advice on this forum I turned OFF recommended updates on my main PC and my lappy. I had to do a restore to get back to NORMAL. I don't mind being given stuff for free BUT important questions have never been answered: -
    1. will updates for 10 continue to be free?
    2. will drivers for ALL peripherals be available, e.g. my printer which is several years old now but works with 7?
    3. will software that is already loaded on my 7 machine continue to work with 10 and, if it doesn't will Microsoft do anything about it for free? I doubt it. Will they provide updated software for free? What about programs that are no longer available like MSMoney that worked on XP and grudgingly works on 7?

Cannot answer your questions 1 or 2 but I have got MS Money Sunset running very successfully on my Windows 10.

I have read that people have had problems with MS Money so I was very nervous.

I did install it on a new laptop which I had just upgraded to Windows 10. It may be that if you upgrade an existing laptop from 7 to 10, it could be different as you will have lots of things which could perhaps conflict.

But, I can confirm that it does work on a clean, new install laptop. I do not bother synching my records with my bank though. Just enter things manually.

Hope this helps a bit and good luck!
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend

It is utterly pathetic. Grow up Microsoft.
