That's not why MS are doing this.

They're planning to turn Windows into a closed platform, much like Apples iOS.
Paying for updates (security or otherwise) is almost certainly going happen. Perhaps even paying monthly for using Win10.
I can see them restricting what you can install, perhaps even forcing all software to be purchased/downloaded via their own store.
Also Win10 is well known for leaking your personal data, MS will undoubtedly be using this for targeted advertising.

If you want Win10 when it's no longer free, just buy an OEM disk on eBay in a couple of years time. I got a genuine copy of Win7 for £20, it'll be no different for Win10.

The other problem with this free upgrade is that MS have an extremely poor history when it comes to upgrading one OS to another and most IT savvy folk would NEVER do an upgrade like this.
I think they want to make the OS incidental, and have it become a portal which locks you into their store and online services.

It has already been spelled out by Microsoft that there will not be an ongoing fee, for updates or for using windows 10. Given this was announced last July, I'm amazed anyone is still being taken in by year old scaremongering. :(
