mothernerd gave a brilliant explanation of the turtle rationale in her first challenge in sept 14. Here's the link:

Thats an interesting bit of threadology there thanks, I have been 'contributing' to this challenge since the end of last year and I didnt know that
I am definately having a tight time of it. I swing between thinking everything will be ok and thinking it wont. The annoying thing is next month or in 24 days time, we will be fine as extra money coming in for December, but right now, its dire. Appreciate this thread is not for moaning, so instead I am doing everything I can to rearrange the bills & hope for the best. Got soaked earlier as well which always makes things feel worse!
Mothernerd - I have wondered about dumpster diving before, but have never actually managed to find anything that looked remotely interesting. There was a cucumber I kept passing for a number of days that had been dropped and then picked up and left on a wall, still in its wrapper, but I couldnt quite bring myself to grab it. Silly considering I will happily pick up money, coupons etc.
Editing to say, whoops forgot my gratitudes.
1) That there are only 24 days to go of this month(ok tongue is in cheek there)
2) That there are a few birthday cards for me waiting to be opened (bday saturday) it is nice that people have remembered.
3) That easteneders is on tonight...." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

bob - we are here to support and back each other. So if you need to have a rant, moan, explosion on here, that is fine
. You have a bundle of hormones zipping round your body at the mo, and must be lacking sleep. Hang in there x.
dolly - I passionately love food shopping! I'd loathe doing it online - I just love wandering round the food shops, but only the cheapie ones. It stems from going round the markets on a sat morning with my dad. My sister grew up hating food shopping and I grew up completely the opposite. I realise dad did it because money was really tight and he needed to get the best price on absolutely everything. Hence we would go round all 3 fruit/veg stalls before buying anything so that he could compare all the prices. Then drop those bags back at the car and do the same for the other purchases.
NSD 5 today - yay! But not tomorrow as it is my ...food shopping day - yay again!
Had my water this morning, got in a walk before work, but did not remain grain and sugar free - my downfall were 2 and a half of Lilty's cookies. You see, dd doesn't like them... So I am ensuring they don't go to waste... :rotfl: 1 cookie might be comsidered a treat or an impulse. Shame the same cannot be said for the other 1 and a half...:D
Tomorrow I get my first lot of cash out for this month. I do miss doing the Tilly Tidies,'but like the control.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Evening everyone,
NSD #4 as I made do with the food in the flat rather than going out to buy more. Very happy about that.
Today I'm grateful for:
1. Rediscovering a tool
2. Watching the "War on Waste" programme on BBC iPlayer and getting some tips.
3. A warm flat where washing dries quickly.0 -
Today I am grateful for my techie dh sorting out our imterweb, for dd's after school club, for a good walk, for friendly colleagues, for a snuggly duvet.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

A NSD. Fighting the impulse to hibernate so made myself go out. Took 3 tins to the food bank box in the library and 34 items to the charity bin. Deleted some more annoying people from my bookface feed. One American woman, no idea who she is or how she got on my feed - reminds me of the people who were on the US 'celebrity' version of the apprentice (watched during one of my insomniac periods). How bad (useless) do people have to be that you end up rooting for Piers Morgan.
Good food (mostly simple stuff), trying to resist the urge for chocolate (I have a voucher). Probably stay in as the air quality is deteriorating due to the fireworks (not much to see, mostly bangers). At least the multi-storey is no longer there (people used to set them off between the floors and it reverberates forever).
Today I am grateful for good simple food, for getting the decluttering underway again (undecided whether I should try for 2015 things gone in 2015, would be a tight deadline) and not having to go anywhere. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Hi everyone!
Bob I'm the same as you with the swinging between 'everything will be ok' and then 'omg it's a disaster, how will we survive?' So I feel your pain. But you are doing fantastically well with everything so just keep going with it.
Had a day off today. Still no NSDs as we did weekly shop. I also ordered DSs main Christmas present (a tablet). Went for a cheaper version in the end and spent £43, after using Amazon voucher code, instead of the planned £100.
Spend a few hours making some items for the shop, but was lovely to have some 'me' time to sit on the sofa and do...nothing!
Took little ones to fireworks display this evening. It was amazing, the best I remember in a long time. Does that count as an outing?
Today I am grateful for...
An amazing fireworks display that provided great, free entertainment for my little ones.
DSs inquisitive mind - he's really interested in history atm and is really absorbing what he is learning.
A day off.0 -
Evening all - a spendy day here, bought a couple of wee christmas presents, got a few bits food shopping, went for a drink with OH after the fireworks plus paid for my laptop repair.
My three things today are finding out that I'm getting a wee pay rise from 2nd job, watching an excellent firework display and spending some quality time with OH.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.9.25 - £106,033.77

Evening all,
Not a SFD today as I really wanted chocolate so I broke my run of SFDs and got done and it was soooo worth it.
Today I am grateful for:-
1. Being paid from the extra work I did over half term
2. There not being too many fireworks so my nervous dog isn't haven't too much of a bad night
3. An amazing surprise - for the second time this year by bank (1st D) have freely admitted that they didn't tell customers the full terms of their loans and have given me back the interest paid!!! :j Earlier in the year it was for my current loan but today a letter arrived for a loan I had in 2011. I am so grateful for their honesty and for the money received. I'll be paying it off the debt tomorrowLBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)
