Sorry to resurrect this thread - but TT have today admitted that 157,000 customers had had their personal data hacked :

Of these, 15,000 had bank account/card details stolen
What concerns me is what data was stolen on the other 142,000 ?
I also wonder, what happens next - if we do discover that we are part of the 157,000 - How much compensation are we looking at from TT ?
Or are TT going to just offer to release us from the contract with no early release payment ?

their attitude is that they will not release you from your contract although I suspect they MIGHT do so for the 15,000

again , unless you are one of the 15,000 I would expect much or any compensation from them

Yet again - this implies that the hackers have access to bank card data - which is why I always ensure that I pay by DD (direct from my bank account) - the hackers may have details of the bank account but are unable to withdraw money using the account number and sort code (if they were we would all be in trouble since the account number and sort code are on every cheque that I write !!)

The danger is if they try to take out a loan in your name from your bank, but again they would need more info than TT held.

To me the biggest danger is the phone scammers.
I get calls nearly every day, they sound Asian and there`s plenty of background noise where you can hear others talking so it`s not one man in his attic doing it.
It`s organised and they dial out ten numbers at a time, that`s why very often when you answer it there`s silence.
Whoever of the ten answers first cuts out the other nine calls.
The story has so far always been, they`re from TT, you have a virus via your TT router and they can fix it for X amount if you give them your details.
  • 19 days and the website is still down. I was told on the phone a few days ago it was up and running, when I pointed it out it wasn't she said it would be in a few hours. 4 days later and still not up and running.

Give them a chance - they can't be expected to raise their prices AND sort out their website access at the same time !!
