Section 13 of the Data Protection Act 1998 ("DPA") provides that an individual who suffers damage resulting from an organisation's breach of the DPA is entitled to compensation for that damage. Compensation may also be claimed in the event that the breach gives rise to distress as well as damage.
The website is still down - so how do we change our account passwords ?
Well I'm certainly distressed by all this.0 -

The most likely explanation for this particular fraud is the usual one - someone she knows has got hold of her card details and has had a spree.
But, hey, let's blame Talk Talk for everything.
The Daily Mail and the rest of the media are whipping people into a frenzy
Yeah, with 4mill customers there are bound to be a few that get scammed for reasons that are nothing to do with this incident & also a few people who will see an opportunity to clean out their own accounts and try to lay the blame on TT.
To be clear I am no way excusing TT's failures.0 -
As I have always paid monthly with discount, in advance of direct debit, they also have both my debit and credit card details. I am going abroad, and the thought of trying to find secure internet connection (I try never to access financial sites when abroad anyway) and wondering if I've been targeted is not something I want to even have to think about. I have therefore today cancelled both cards, having first drawn out enough cash to tide me over. New cards should arrive in about a week. By far the less stressful option I think and if something like this happens again (which I am sure it will - and I am tied in wih TT for nearly another fifteen months), I would do this again, even if not going abroad.“Rain drops are not the ones who bring the clouds.”0

Would I be correct in thinking that this is a problem for those paying by Debit / Credit cards - rather than DD ?
Well, your bank account can't be raided by someone who only has your sorting code number and your bank account number.
So it could be said that people paying by direct debit have one less thing to be concerned about
But there's still the possibility that other sensitive information could have been stolen, such as your data of birth, if you had given this to Talk Talk
So all Talk Talk customers still need to be very careful, and I would suggest be especially careful of phishing attemptsEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I am going to email Dido and ask her what plans she has for compensating her customers and certainly not to try to impose the latest tariff increase - on grounds of the stress that this is causing us all - and with the threat of section 13 of the DPA behind us - we should at the very least, be able to exit the account without any early exit "fine" being due from us .......ie) Change ISP.0

After the last hack in August, I`ve been called virtually every day by someone claiming to be from Talktalk.
They`ve used various numbers and one which is from outside of the UK.
I`ve reported them to Ofcom and the ICO.
0014178627488 (every day, outside UK)
01202765019
01293883540
It`s always a foreign (asian) voice claiming your router has been infected by a virus and they need your details or they want you to let them remotely use your pc.
I would say it`s these scum on the phones you have to be aware of rather than direct access to your bank accounts because they need more than just the entry password.Plus you should be covered by the banks themselves.0 -
Dido has just been on Sky News.
She says that only encrypted card details were stolen (middle six digits) and that customer account password were NOT breachedEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I don't trust her or any TT personnel
She could just be lying
How do we know ?0 -

As the ICO is fully involved in this, it's not really in her interests to go on national TV and lie though her teeth. If she was lying, it would come out later anyway. So maybe she's telling the truthEarly retired - 18th December 2014
