CBC I'm sorry to hear that - it's never easy to hear that type of news.

300 miles is a fair distance so going to cost a few pennies.
There isn't a right or wrong answer for how frequent you should visit - you still have to do your day to day life around it so it's hard if it's often but also understandable if it's not. Do what's right for you.

No apologies necessary - it can be hard to talk to people in real life and this is the perfect place to have a rant. We won't judge, it's a hard situation to be in with no handbook to guide you ;)

    Sending hugs

Well done, Dobbi:T. You're an inspiration to us all:A

I can't remember which thread I mentioned it on:o, apologies if I'm repeating myself, but my brother has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We haven't been estranged exactly, just not close and I hadn't seen him for several years.

Have been planning to go and see him (almost 300 miles from where I live) so am expecting a big hit to my EF. According to my SIL he refuses to talk to or even see any visitors and is severely depressed. I've put off going since I heard the news that he is so ill. The Consultant has given him months rather than years so I can't delay for too long. Am worrying myself sick about when to go and if it will be a fruitless journey. Can't afford to do the trip too often:o. On the other hand I don't want to leave it too late. I'm in a weird kind of limbo at the moment.

Sorry about the rant. Finding it difficult to talk to people in real life in case they think I'm whingeing:o
Depending on where you both living it cn be worth looking at different types of transport/ days to travel to get the costs as affordable as possible. Mixing and matching might save you too.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Hi everyone, it’s my eagerly awaited pay day today, so I’ve added £100 to the pot, taking it to £5700 which is just under 80% of my target.

Now, I’m on holiday at the end of the month so this is likely to push me back a little but I’m determined to hit my target in 2018. Provided there are no major emergencies! *knocks on wood* :D

Hope you are OK DreamerHelen, not seen you on here for a while xx

    Evening all

£31.81 paid into Mums fund today, total is now £502.05/£3000.

I have to take my laptop to the pc vet on thursday, so I suspect I may have to dip into this fund, but I’m hoping not too deeply.

    Hi everyone!

Long time, no post. Just not much to report really. I think I might have added something to my total but will have to double check.

CBC - sorry to hear about your brother. That must be an awful situation. Hope you manage to sort something that works for botj of you.

I haven’t properly caught up so hoping everyone else is well.

I’m having a dilemma. We now have around £500 per month after all of our budgets and bills are funded each month. We also have £6000 on a 0% card until December 2020 - min payment £60 at present - 1%, we usually pay more though. We also need to build our emergency fund and finish renovating our house. We need to plaster wall in our bedroom and hall, stairs and landing, as well as decorating, carpeting etc.

One part of me is thinking we should do the emergency fund first, an other part thinks we should hammer the debt. And then another wants to get rid of the shocking 1970’s carpet and decor and make my home nice.

DH also gets a bonus in June which were thinking of putting towards the house stuff, so should maybe concentrate on the other two things for the time being.

    Help!! What would you do??

    Just throwing in my thoughts.....
    - £300 pcm on CC (this would see it paid off in 20 months, giving you 2 months to play with before the promo ends if you need it)
    - £100 pcm to the emergency fund (it's not a race, more a stroll to the finish line ;) )
    - £100 pcm to the decorating fund plus the bonus in June

It's about getting a balance you are happy with.

    :D

It’s actually 34 months until the CC needs clearing, because it’s the end of 2020 that the offer finishes. But I was toying with what you put in your plan as my most likely option.
