I am waiting for PPI refund amount to hit my bank in next few weeks. Will take my total for 3 month plus £1000 challenge to £9500. Am actually considering using it as a house deposit though not rushing into anything. There's houses going here for under £90K. But still weighing it up as cannot do anything until the money hits my account.

Hopefully it will not take long, have you been looking for a property and have one in mind? A lot of the expense I find comes after the move with furniture, fixtures and fittings :(

I have been looking on line and researching mortgages. Would be similar to my rent. As for furniture etc. I rent unfurnished so I already have all the furniture and appliances as well as curtains etc. I am not going to make any decision just yet. Though I may get an AIP from a provider to give me some freedom of choice once the money hits my account.

My logic on doing so is in 23 years (will be asking for 23 year mortgage) when I retire I will have a property and not be having to pay rent out. So will actually need a lower pension and be more likely to afford it. There's one I have seen for £85000 down a quiet road, which if I got I could still afford to put aside money into my emergency fund.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

I used my Emergency Fund yesterday because we needed to book accommodation for 8 of us to go to my grandsons Christening in April.
We decided that booking a caravan for a week and combining Easter holiday with the Christening was actually more cost effective then driving down and stopping in a hotel for the weekend.
So I paid the full amount. £409 and My Daughter will repay me her half over the next three paydays.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

I had to reapply within my organisation as my role was discontinued and replaced with a different role. I have now successfully been appointed to the new role :-)
But at least it kicked me into gear with saving and thinking about what I really want to do in life
Research analyst sounds fancy. Do you work in a particular field?
That's good news. Its amazing how fear can be so motivating.

Not sure I'd say fancy. It's consumer insights for varies industries so spend all my day looking at Excel spreadsheets.

I've decided I am going to put some of my emergency fund in to a help to buy Isa on Monday. If I have read it right, I could have £1600 put across by 1st March and then be eligible for the £400 bonus when completing on a house. (£400 less I'll need from savings and hence can keep in emergency fund).

A little bit of interest plus my usual top up means my new total is sitting at £4361.86 aka 48.47%.
Creeping up slowly so it shouldn't be long before I reach my 50% milestone.

    Keep on keeping on eveyone.

Well done, Dobbi:T. You're an inspiration to us all:A

I can't remember which thread I mentioned it on:o, apologies if I'm repeating myself, but my brother has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We haven't been estranged exactly, just not close and I hadn't seen him for several years.

Have been planning to go and see him (almost 300 miles from where I live) so am expecting a big hit to my EF. According to my SIL he refuses to talk to or even see any visitors and is severely depressed. I've put off going since I heard the news that he is so ill. The Consultant has given him months rather than years so I can't delay for too long. Am worrying myself sick about when to go and if it will be a fruitless journey. Can't afford to do the trip too often:o. On the other hand I don't want to leave it too late. I'm in a weird kind of limbo at the moment.

Sorry about the rant. Finding it difficult to talk to people in real life in case they think I'm whingeing:o
