  • Hi guys

Looking for NY flights myself for xmas/new year which is usually ridiculously dear but BA and Virgin both still have their sales on with some low fares - sale ends tomorrow night I think but there is still some availability on there. They also have premium economy seats on sale too! :) Good luck!:j

I'm off to NY next April and have been keeping an eye on prices. This morning BA are showing direct flights at £282, they were £350 earlier this week. Might actually book now, I was holding back as per MarkyMoo's advice. :T

AA seem cheapest at £693.20 for two of us, out from LHR on 10th December and back on 20th. Anywhere I should be looking? BA more expensive!
  • I'm going to NYC with a teacher friend next October half term (2009).

Non stop flights from Manchester with Air France/Delta to JFK are £383. I wanted under £350 if possible. Is that likely to happen with it being the British half term?

    that is 11 months away?

i'm sure somewhere in my guide, i advise people to maybe book things around 3 months away.. that's when the airlines start panicking that the flights ain't full..

  • Sorry, I did notice the 3 month thing but I couldn't find a post with exactly what it was relating to.

Hmm, I think I'd panic I wouldn't get a good price for half term when it was only 3 months away. They're kind of set holidays that Brits always take.

Bmi have ended their direct transatlantic flights from MAN to the USA so prices might be higher due to fewer flights.

I can see your reasoning at securing flights for a definite, unmoveable timescale.

However in the airline industry (especially now) there are several problems with your thinking.

    1) Flight schedules are not fixed this far ahead so if you book it now you may find that your times and even airport may change.

    2) Your airline may go bust or stop flying that route. (AirFrance have just pulled their direct LAX-LHR, bmi have pulled MAN-ORD and LAS)

    3) Fares could plumet (as they just have done) or they could really rocket as oil prices could soar, demand could drop (recession) etc...

I would not think that being Oct half term makes much effect as it's not a kids destination really (It could be affected by Yanks over here going home). Though I suppose flights could be filled by Brits connecting via JFK going to Orlando etc.

IMHO I would not book until the summer of next year at the earliest. Though I would keep an eye on the fares every now and again so as to keep up with trends.
  • If anything comes up around the £320 mark then I think I'd book. But yes you're right, with the uncertainty in the airline industry it would make sense to wait.

However on that reasoning I'd be paying more than £800 more for my Christmas holiday this year to Hawaii. I booked in April for £1200pp, now it's gone to over £2000pp. Maybe the Christmas dates come into play there though.

I'll keep my beady eyes on prices.
