Cheap Flights to New York

• I'd like to go to New York next year with the boyfriend. I haven't looked into prices yet but am probably going to avoid really cheap airlines...only because the boyfriend is long legged (he's 6ft 4) so I want to avoid him moaning for hours.

Does anyone know what airlines have good sized economy seats for those people lucky enough to be tall, unlike me? Then I can have a gander and look at prices. thanks!

EDIT: It looks like 31" is the standard economy seat pitch. I don't think our budget will stretch to anything better than economy!

Hi, am looking for 2 flights Glasgow - New York for about a week between 30/08/08 and 09/09/08. Cheapest I could find direct was £797!! Am willing to travel from Edinburgh or Manchester or go via London for the cheapest deal. £428 seems to be the best.. can anyone beat that ? Can't use some of the flightcheckers cos my work has them blocked !!

can i ask why you posted this in both the cheap flights and the generic new york thread??

MAN - NYC - £348 with Continental - Change at Gatwick - Fly TO JFK,
fly back FROM EWR change at Heathrow

yeah ok.. a ballache, but hell.. its £348!!!
Direct from MAN - £426 (is it worth paying so much more for 2 hours of your time!)

Glasgow to NYC - Change at Philadelphia - £357 (US Air)
Glasgow to NYC - Direct - £549 (Continental)

Hope that helps

Probably best to phone an agent e.g. STA travel and talk through flight times or try a flexible seach (+-3 days) on travelocity.co.uk. Here's a couple of examples of what might be available:

Glasgow (GLA) - New York (NYC) on US airways (via Philadelphia (PHL))
2nd Sept - 9th Sept. around £350 return

London - Newark on continental airways (direct) 1-8 Sept around £320 return

Having trouble getting train times from Penn station, the site says you have to reserve a seat..what if my plane is delayed (arr@1125) and it seems there is only 1 train going to Albany in the afternoon
Maybe a bus would be better?
Thanks

a bus takes 2 and a half hours to get to albany...

now, with amtrak, yeah.. you do have to book a seat on the train... amtrak really do work in the same ways as a plane journey, which is probably really odd to us brits, but that's the way it is..

now over at flyertalk someone asked a similar question, and stated in one of the responses was that you don't have to prebook, you could just turn up, get a ticket and go!

i've just checked train times on amtrak.com and there are trains at the following times...

12.20
1.20
2.20
3.20
4.40
5.45

all leaving from Penn Station, going to Albany, NY... just double check you are selecting the correct station on the amtrak website -
Albany-Rensselaer, NY

How long for and do you mean £500+ for both, or each? If you don't mind a long flight (not direct) then there are some good bargains on NWA (using their japanese site). For example:
London -> Detroit -> New York (13 hours)
New York -> Amsterdam -> London (10 hours)
£207 (44,360 Yen) 1st-8th Novemeber

Depends whether you're after cheapest possible ... or convenient. There are less inconvenient flights on Opodo for about £365 for these dates too.

best thing to do would look at purchasing an exit row seat within Economy, some airlines charge as little as a £50 supplement, which is better than £500 upgrade ( one way ) they can normally do this at the airport and I know Virgin are now selling them online and over the phone
I am sure that BA do the same
