Cheap Flights to New York

Without Concorde flying I guess all flights are cheap;)0

Hi all, are there any seasoned travellers out there who know of anyone offering Premium Economy from Birmingham to anywhere in the U.S. please?
I have literally spent ALL day sorting out a very last min holiday, got a fab cruise deal and managed to find direct flights BHX to NYC for just £346 with Continental (leaving 25/5, returning 9/6, on Kayak.co.uk, MILES cheaper than anywhere else I could find) but I haven't flown with them before and the best info I've found on seatguru suggests their 757 isn't the best in terms of comfort for a transatlantic flight.
As I am celebrating finally getting out of an awful business and haven't had a decent hol in over 7 years, I'd really like to travel in style, so would pay the extra for PE if I could find anyone doing it from Birmingham - I have literally searched hundreds of places and spoken to so many useless airline booking call centres today I can't tell you!
If PE doesn't exist from BHX, would travel anywhere else in UK if we could get reasonable (ie sub £1,000 ish) direct flights, but no luck so far. I've even looked at flying out PE from London then coming back direct to BHX but the ridiculous hike in prices when you're not doing a return flight is quite outrageous! Also did look at Zoom PE but a little put off by some stories, but then, can you go wrong for £424 with 36" pitch...? I believe their in-flight entertainment leaves a bit to be desired but maybe for that price we should just splash out on a portable DVD player! But then we have to get to and from Gatwick and the unbelievable £316 return BHX to Gatwick, plus 7-hour plus journey!!! Any input anyone, might even pay my nephew to drive us from Gatwick to Birmingham...
Sorry for looooong post but I have truly exhausted all other possibilities, I reckon I've maybe earned a little help...
Thanks for all help,
Kalamity, long-time no hol MSE'er
P.S. The reason I say we could fly anywhere in US is cos we have a week to occupy ourselves prior to cruise and internal flights are soooooooooo cheap in the US it wouldn't be a problem to hop back to NYC for 1/6, can't wait for cruise part :j
you could try ringing Silverjet as they were advertising a summer sale at £999 return ...possibly due to the short period now before departure these fares don't show on your dates.
i'd ring them as they are a small enough company where they may be able to get someone to ok a £999 fare.....i'd say though have a look at their website decide if it's for you and then you are in a positive position when you phone ie if they say yes you'll book there and then.
they have their own terminal at Luton which isn't that bad a journey from brum0 -
Thanks so much markymoo & hammy, I have looked into both of these deals and they both look like winners to me!! Will check details in the morning as nobody is still up (why on earth not?
) and book something - twill be my first time flying in such luxury!!! Definitely  guys
Sooooooooooo excited!
Not very moneysaving but never mind0 -
jane if you go for the Silverjet phone call i'd ring in office hours as if they'll do the deal they'd have to get someone to approve it.
say you've been recommended to use them for a leisure break using the £999 offer.
i'm not saying they will but it's worth a try and i can recommend their service .
let us know how you get on with whatever you choose0 -

Hi, some helped needed please!
Can anyone beat the price I've found for NYC 09/08/08 - 19/08/08 flying from Aberdeen happy to change anywhere?
Through Kayak.co.uk it's £525 flying with BA. I've searched for the same week in September and it comes out at £336 with KLM which seems a much better deal. We're undecided about going in August or September but the cost of the flights is going to probably be the deciding factor.
Thanks!Lightbulb moment Jan 7th 2010 - all debts cleared by Dec 2010

All booked woohoooooooo, we're going on Silverjet leaving this Sunday & returning two weeks later, omg can't believe either the fact we're going business class or how much we've spent so far on this holiday and we haven't even got there yet!
Looked at the US Air option again and as we couldn't know if we'd be able to upgrade til the day before it was a bit risky, might not have got seats where we want etc. So as recommended I called Silverjet, first girl said definitely couldn't do it as all Sale seats gone, but I said well as it's only a few days away you're unlikely to sell loads more seats now, I persisted in the face of her flat refusal & finally she said she'd ask someone from the Frequent Business Travel dept to call me (see, I first registered here, to 'help' me in my quest).
Repeated whole script when other girl called me soon after, after a bit she said she'd ask someone else and call me back, minutes later hey presto! To be even cheekier I asked to go on earlier flight on the way home too, which isn't at Sale price, and was told no problem! So whole thing down from over £1,300 to just £999 pp, can't wait to try out their flat beds, Le Caprice menus, in-seat back massagers etc!! AND absolutely HUGE baggage allowance, 64kg each can you believe, we can truly go mad with no fear of excess charges! When we looked online afterwards to reserve actual seats, I was surprised the flight is nowhere near full so that's probably why they could do it - tip for future; try to go and come back on a Sunday!!
Is there anywhere on here to put reviews of flights, it's the least I can do for giving me such a fab tip! Again, , and I'll be back when I need help avoiding bankruptcy after this trip!0 -

for once i don't need to get my coat and leave!!!!!!
jane remember that if you are flying internally you need to look at that carriers conditions relating to luggage.
had you thought of hiring a car for the week and doing philadelphia , atlantic city , washington and a favourite of mine amish country based around lancaster PA ?
you'll have an easy route out from newark .
if you want to know anything about silverjet please feel free to ask on here or PM me.
the service before ,during and after your flight is brilliant for the price.
i'm just so glad you got a deal....enjoy0 -

Thanks for the reminder but I don't intend lugging everything around with me! I have arranged for some things to be sent to me at the hotel we're staying in for the first few nights, will leave things with them til we get back from the cruise. You have to do it when a) can't get some things in this country (is there a board for mad Yankee Candle devotees like me :rotfl:?) and b) the price is so much better too!
Only question I have about Silverjet is, are there any tips on where best to sit and where not to sit? Afetr paying for this so my OH can finally relax for once, don't want to sit in the one place we shouldn't, thereby marking ourselves out as 'first-timers' (apart from obvious next-to-toilet seats), thanks very much. This is me :j, good thing we're leaving soon as my OH may well have had enough of me by then!0
