Cheap Flights to New York

Having searched for some flights to EWR i keep coming up with cheaptickets.com as the best option. I have read numerous bad reviews about them online but they all seem to be USA based comments, does anyone have any experience of dealing with them?
thanks0 -
you don't say what airport you're traveling from??
however, at a quick look, there really isn't much around... as you're looking only 6 weeks away, the only thing i can think of is that the flights are fairly busy, and the cheap fares are booked!!!
i've found £265 from Man - NYC with US Air - via Philadelphia
however.. if you shift your dates to be 14th - 20th, you can get a flight from london for £250.... (or £230 if you change somewhere)
try travelocity.co.uk and put in "my dates are flexible" and it gives you a grid of a week each way... then you know what prices are around..
Markymoo, many thanks for taking the time to help me with this query. I want to fly to JFK Airport. Im glad that its not only me struggling to find a bargain on the internet..
Is Newark airport far from Central Park? The prices you have given are quite good, which I will need to discuss with the missus.
In addition, do you think the best thing to do is to book flights and accomodation separate?

Newark is not far from manhatten at all. There is transport every 15mins or so into Manhatten and i find it much nicer an airport than LGA or JFK.0

there are 3 airports that serve NYC...
LaGuardia is the smallest, and you'd only fly into that if you're connecting elsewhere in the USA,
JFK and Newark Liberty, are big airports, and about the same cost/distance from Manhattan, so it really doesn't matter which one you travel into. To be honest.. Newark is a better airport, as the immigration hall is a lot lot bigger, and you spend less time queuing..
Which airport are you flying out of.. Manchester, Heathrow? ?0 -

as far as i am aware, cheaptickets.com is an american site, so you'll be charged in US dollars. this may be why a lot of the compaints, that you say there are, are from people in the states.
Personally, i'd book either directly through the airline websites, or the main culprits for flights - expedia, opodo, travelocity, airline-network.. you know the ones..
what dates are you looking for.. .?0 -
thnaks Markymoo, i've moved to New jersey from the UK so cheaptickets in US dollars is fine. I'm really flexible about when i come home and i notice your 3 months booking in advance does seem to bring the best fares.:D0

i'm sticking by my 3 month rule, but i'd always do some checks whenever you remember... if you see a good price.. and by good price that is direct for £250, and with 1 change at about £225 ish... (give or take) then book it..
i'm going in about 2 months time to NYC... but the best price i can see at the moment is £255.. so i'm biding my time, and checking daily now...you win some you lose some, but i've done NYC plenty of times from Man, and i know what i should be paying... first week of Jan, i'm hoping for some bargain fares... hehe...
however, the airlines have fares available for the business traveller, and uneducated, which you could book now, and pay £400.
flights may book up early as it is a christmas shopping trip you're wanting to do.. so maybe 4 months, good luck!0 -
