Just to point out that in Birmingham and the Midlands Mom is the predominant form used.

Drivers/Driving licence, too much american TV.

My thoughts run along the lines of Guest101.

In this country, we have a 'driving licence' the Americans have a 'drivers (sic) license'
In this country we call our mothers 'mum' the Americans call their mothers 'mom'

And you didn't know an Audi R8 was an expensive car but you're well enough educated to write 'the company he said he worked for was liquidated'

OH uses Mom he's Birmingham born and breed. Drives me mad as I've always used Mum :(

OP as others have said I'd just walk away you're probably better off without him. If he can't have the decency to give you an answer then shows what kind of person he is

• I'm not going to cast doubt on your story, as I've heard of a similar thing happening to a friend of my wife.

Do you remember any of his friends names from facebook? Have you tried contacting them?

Just because a firm is liquidated doesn't mean everyone who worked for it ceased to exist. Can you use the company name to find the directors, then contact them? There's a chance he was a contractor, and used his own umbrella company, which he closed down.. in that case you may in trouble getting any information.

Did he use any other social media accounts? Twitter, instagram? It's very hard to completely remove all your online digital presences.

I think a private investigator could probably help you, but would cost a fortune too

Use your second Facebook account to look for him and his 'friends'.

You do have a second Facebook account, don't you?

• I'd put bets that this is a phishing attempt and when a couple of peeps write PMs with suggestions of which PI to use, there will be a reply that 'he's left my son and I with no money, if only I could afford the £150....' etc. etc.

Although I'd probably hedge those bets and the writing analysis I put the original text through, suggests a 'weak female'

The original story, is - in the main - well written, with little spelling errors and as a whole, scores 81% readability. However statements along the lines of :

'had the ring valued, and it is worth far more than someone doing the job he said he did, could afford...'

jar with ownership of an £80,000 car. Whose ring was it, Lady Di's?
