I've has my suspicions about this thread from the very beginning, not because I don't believe that anything like this could happen, plenty of people here have relayed stories confirming it's not at all uncommon.

However, as alluded to earlier, there is a certain troll whose aim is to string out a long threads by drip feeding information, changing the story cover their tracks when things are getting close to being revealed as a hoax and with the purpose of causing divide and unrest amongst long-time users. They have a distinctive writing style designed to evoke sympathy and concern. This thread has all of that.

I'm surprised to see certain users, who have been victims of this troll before, haven't twigged yet.

    There, I said it.

So what? I don't really care if the OP is real or not. This thread has been an interesting read. I'd never heard of the term 'catfish' before. It's kept me amused while I'm at work and for that it is to be applauded.

There are a few chunks of the OP that are 'removed by the MSE Forum Team.' Unfortunately, they didn't remove it for a couple of days, so everybody already saw what she said!

    OP quoted in post 7.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

There are so many quotations and references in others' posts that the poor moderators are going to be very busy if they hope to blank out every detail which may lead to id... so why else do this? I'm intrigued (again)...

I'm a new poster here. How did you get on with this in the end? I hope you've managed to move on and forget about that low life :) x

I'm going to have to ask the obvious question here as to how a new poster accidentally
stumbles upon a controversial old thread that's lurking in the archives from 3 months ago and innocently manages to resurrect it?
