  • After owning an oak desk for 12 months I noticed a large split on the desktop surface. Unquestionably this has happened because the
wood has not been properly seasoned and has continued to dry out catastrophically after being used in the manufacture of the desk.
Eventually I managed to get a response from oakfurnitureland. Their response was 'you didn't wax the
furniture every three months like you're supposed to. It's in our terms and conditions'.
Right, I'll get my butler onto that every quarter then, patrolling all of the natural wood furniture (quite a lot actually) and waxing
the lot. Or perhaps only the poor quality wood needs waxing - as the call agent at oakfurnitiureland says 'the wax soaks the water
up'. Of course it does. Not. No help there the, Go away, basically.
So my advice is if you want quality furniture that will last and look fabulous and a company that won't try and tell you it's your
fault should have been supplied with low quality merchandise, look perhaps towards The Cotswold Company. This is who we used
previously before giving oakfurnitureland a chance. Guess who we will go back to.
In summary, oak furnitureland, low quality product, apalling, couldn't care less customer service. Couldn't be more disappointed.
    Avoid like the plague!

  • It doesn't get any better I'm afraid! Table is now splitting and coming apart, spoke to someone today in the business and he said be very wary of the Asia woods, most of the problems are to do with the different climates and how the wood struggles and is prone to splits/cracks/bows, etc. Mango wood being one of them!
Oak furniture were there usual self, through the rig-mar rule of photos, etc..Awaited call back in 48 hours....no call back so rang them up and gave them a mouthful and said just give me my money back. He agreed and was going to refund it right away, that was 20th.....as usual, still waiting!!!
Rang again today, lad I spoke to said they had had no contact from myself and were not going to refund until furniture had been collected!!!
The company is just a shambles from start to finish.....Its the first time I have ever felt the need to do this...I wouldn't normally bother but the whole service has been that bad I had to say something!!
    STEER CLEAR!!

I heard from a friend that had used them and it seems that he was satisfied with their services.
  • Well, our Alto cabinet, TV unit and nested tables arrived today, along with the oak extending table. Rather early at 7am i must say! 4 out of the 6 chairs we ordered were right, but 2 were the wrong type... need to wait a few days and they'll bring along the right ones.

Stuff looks great. I bought the oak wax and intend to use it in-case there are any problems and OFL try to use it as an excuse.

After the nightmare stories on here, i was very relieved that it was all ok. Stuff looks great also (I'll take a photo later)

    Hi Money savers!
I'll declare my interest straight away, I make bespoke furniture but I'm not on here to advertise or put down oak furniture land. I've been wondering how oak furniture land manage to sell their stuff so cheaply so I was doing a bit of research and ended up here reading your reviews. I wanted to give you all a bit of information if you need to make a claim for a refund due to some of their furniture splitting. I think it's outrageous that they claim the splits are due to people not waxing their furniture - that's total rubbish. It's terrible that they have this in their contract. Solid oak furniture doesn't need any treatment to prevent it from cracking provided the timber has been properly seasoned and kiln dried if it's to be used indoors. The reason that the furniture warps and splits is because it's made in humid countries and shipped to the UK. Some of the timber will have too high a moisture content when it's made and it'll absorb more moisture while it's shipped in containers. When you put it in your centrally heated house it starts to dry, and when it dries it splits and warps.

    All the best.

I have to say I've only just come across this thread and would like to add my thoughts.

We ordered and pull out dining table and 4 chairs plus sideboard about 3 years ago everything was fine and never had a problem in that time .
we decided to order some new wardrobes about 6 weeks ago all came ahead of delivery date and again all good.

The moral of the story is any company will have issues with there products from time to time i should know i worked for a large double glazing company for 20 years so i should know
  • I really regret being taken in by the tag line of "solid" and what seem like good prices.

I've got inspects in the furniture I brought from them and they are doing NOTHING to sort the issue out.

They are very poor at responding to telephone and never to emails.

    Appauling!!

And although the last quote from a gentleman said he has been happy, I would seriously tell any new purchaser to think hard before placing an order and don't expect the furniture to last.
  • I experienced the following problems with this company:

On delivering the furniture they told me to keep the boxes as they will not accept returns without the boxes intact.
The furniture I ordered was damaged and unusable.
They tried to pressurise me into accepting their offer to repair it.
They told me that legally they were entitled to send out damaged furniture and they were within their rights to repair rather than refund.
I had to wait weeks for the dispute to be settled and the furniture collected. I had difficulty moving round my house during this time.
They did not refund my credit card on collection of the goods and I had to chase up the refund.
If buying furniture from this company, you will need the technological capability to upload photos of any damaged items to their website before they will consider a refund. They have a special page for this!
They quote their terms and conditions at you.

The credit card company were very good and offered to take up the case for us. However, in the end we did manage to handle it ourselves. It was many months from our initial order, to delivery, then collection and then refund. I incurred expense in long telephone calls and letters, not to mention the time involved in this. I would never do business with this company again.

I ordered from them years ago but they kept putting off delivery and finally admitted that I wouldn't get the stuff for at least 6 weeks even though it said in stock when I bought it.

They refunded me straight away though but I wouldn't bother ordering from them again unless it was a real bargain.
  • I ordered and paid in full for a solid oak wardrobe in April 2012. I was informed that delivery would be about 8 weeks. The order said that they would contact me no later than 28th June and the latest delivery date would be 7th July.
They did NOT contact me by 28th June so, I contacted them.
They did not offer any explanation for non contact or delayed delivery, but told me that they were expecting delivery by 10th July. I tracked my order on their website and over a 3 day period they had changed my latest dlivery date 3 times! 4th Aug, 8th Aug & 10th Aug!!!!
They delivered the wardrobe on 16th July. When I unpacked the wardrobe I found that it was badly damaged. I contacted them AGAIN to report the damage and was told to photograph damage and upload the photo's on their website. They then told me that a replacement would take upto another 6 weeks!
I asked about a refund only to be told that they would NOT refund any money untill they have collected the damaged wardrobe and this may take another 2 weeks for collection of the damaged wardrobe.
They suggested that I choose a different wardrobe from the ones that they have in stock. Reluctantly I chose a wardrobe which was in stock, but this could also take 2 weeks to deliver.
There was a difference in price between the two wardrobes which meant that they owed me £89.74. I asked them to refund the difference only to be told that they would NOT refund the difference untill they had collected the damaged one! Again collection would be 2 weeks.
I received the new wardrobe on 30th July and found that the quality of fitting of the door latches to be poor, I have not reported this due to the fact that I am so sick and tired of contacting them only to receive very poor customer services.
If you buy from Oakfurnitureland just remember that you are parting with your hard earned money up-front, and in my case they have not been too concearned that I have had to wait 13 weeks for delivery of what I would consider to be a product of not that good quality.
I am still waiting for the refund of £89.74, and was told today that they would be refunding me today....I await with bated breath!!
