We purchased 2 item from their new Solihull store, when they arrived the colour waxing had not been fully completed. We rang and complained and sent the requested pictures only to receive a phone call saying that they thought that it was acceptable and if we read the aftersales details they recommend that the customer should wax the furniture on receipt. The items should come fully coloured then waxed - asked for money back lets see how long that takes!:
Went and visited the showroom today in Bolton after doing a search on the internet and marvelling at the massive discounts (+6% Quidco!). The products look pretty decent but after reading all the reviews on here i'm not going to take the risk. It seems the old adage still rings true about if something seems too good to be true... Does anybody have any good experiences with any other websites selling quality oak furninture? Somebody mentioned Direct Interiors and they're top of my list so far.

Both, see my post at #182 for details as to how I got my money back and for an alternative retailer.

I find it strange that most of the negative comments come from newish members or ones with very low post counts. Surely they haven't all just registered to post their dissatisfaction?

I'm not new and as long as this thread helps people to make an informed decision surely post count shouldn't matter at all.

I didn't say all of them, I said most of them.
  • Llyllyll,

Thanks for the reply, you post No182 doesn't list any alternative retailers though.

    jackieb,
I in fact did register to post my worries about this company and to look for an alternative retailer.

As an aside, does anybody know who produces the furniture for Mamas&Papas? I've bought the solid oak furniture from here before and the quality is top notch.

I purchased a dining table and chairs from them some 3 years back.
The chairs were not the same as the ones shown online(brown 'built in' seat padding as opposed to black) and the table legs that are assembled at home (bolted together?) the holes didn't line up on all of the holes.
Chairs were replaced with an alternative(although not original I wanted, but acceptable) Legs were replaced(again not all holes lined up but decided to accept) The overall finish was ok but not 100%.
As already mentioned by another, one man team for delivery on a pallet!
I can't remmber what their advertising states but do they claim all items are solid oak? The legs definitely are not solid oak! Know this cause the ones that were replaced were cut up and used for firewood!

Just checked their site and they claim it is solid-however looking elsewhere and apparently any furniture that it termed 'solid..........(whatever type of wood)' only means that all exposed parts of the furniture are solid, but the frame and inner parts may be made from a cheaper wood!
You would think that SOLID meant SOLID!! So if you think it is nothing but oak, be warned. it isn't!!

I bought an oak dining table from Oakfurnitureland a couple of months back and a crack has appeared on one end of the table.

The crack goes all the way through the table.

Oakfurnitureland have refused to replace the table until someone comes out to see if it can be repaired.

The table has been situated in a dining room and has only had light use, so the damage has not been caused by us.

Apparently, it's Oakfurnitureland's company policy to repair items if they can, but the repair is only guaranteed for one year.

Will submit more details to MSE once the repair people have inspected it.

We took delivery of our furniture from OFL last Monday.
6 wave back chairs, extending dining room table, console table and a Tokyo Solid Oak Large Sideboard.
Must admit I was quite impressed with the packaging of everything, however one of the chairs had a small scratch on it (was offered a £25 refund for keeping it which was ok) but the sideboard had a 24 INCH split right along the top of it!!!
Sent OFL the photos as requested and they said they'd be back in touch within 48 hours.
They failed to contact me, so I phoned them and they say they will replace the sideboard. They said it's not in stock right now but expect it in, within 14 days.
Overall, I'm happy with this as long as they are not just fobbing me off.
Will update this once exchange has taken place.

    update on the above post.
OFL delivered our replacement sideboard yesterday, it arrived in perfect condition, and was packaged up very securely.
Overall, we are very impressed by OFL and will definitely use them again in the future.
  • Just taken delivery of an item from Oakfurnitureland which was badly damaged. Phoned them and expected someone to call and inspect or collect. Dismayed to be told I must file a report online incorporating photographs of the damaged item taken with a digital camera. What would a customer without access to a digital camera and PC do in these circumstances? Are they now to be excluded as purchasers as we move to a fully digital age? I eventually managed but found it very stressful. Someone even less computer savy than me would struggle. Potential customers need to fully aware of this when they order anything. My fault in that I didn't take the time in store when ordering to read and fully understand the terms & conditions.
  • I've just registered with the site because of the shocking service from Oakfurnitureland and felt the need to let people know not to bother with them.
Ordered last November, finally received oak mango table last Thursday!!!! 7 months...Ordered and was told 12 weeks delivery, that came late 7th March!!! 6 chairs came and were ok!! Table had numerous cracks in it, the slats that run from leg to leg had been cut too short and didnt come up to the table leg and looked crap. The other side was worse, they had cut it even shorter but decided to glue a piece on to take it up to the table leg, what made it worse was that it was a different colour and type of wood, it stood out like a sore thumb!
Went through the right paths with photos, etc... Guy came out and condemned table, poorly built and pointed out even more faults with table.
Had to then chase them up about what the next steps to take.....Finally told me a new table would be delivered in 6 weeks....Finally 11 weeks later the table arrives and is in a good condition!
Spoke to them early about compensation and was told to wait till the end once furniture had been delivered. Followed that up today and was told no compensation what so ever as its not company policy!
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
