I have been on to sky today after receiving my email telling me about the price hike. I have managed to secure £10 per month off fibre broadband for 12 months (saving £120), a decrease in my line rental to £9.99 a month for ten months (saving £74.10), 10% reduction on my sky TV, (saving £69.90), a 50% discount on talk weekend and evening (saving £24), and cancelled voicemail for which I was paying £1.25 a month (saving £15) so a total saving over the next year of £303. All done on sky chat so didn't even have to speak to anyone! Happy days

How do you manage to negotiate on Sky chat ? They told me I have to phone for any deals etc. They can only advise on chat.

I have only ever , once, managed to get onto chat and hated the effort of typing and having the, obviously, foreign person unable to understand.

It's call and use the 'intending to leave' option for me. It's much easier to communicate with someone whose voice you can hear and responses are instant.

Free broadband, half price line, full price Anytime calls, half price tv and £50 credit, with hardly any effort.

Anyone know how strict they'd be on the 30 day cancellation without penalty rule? I mean can you argue that the date on the letter is earlier than the day you actually received it? As mine is dated the 16th which is yesterday but was planning to try and call to haggle some kind of deal. So have I left it too late? Any advice would be much appreciated. I am not the most assertive person so this process will be quite difficult.

When looking for comparable deals, is it best to use uSwitch then check the cashback on offers additionally? Or is there a better way of finding the right info?

Ugh I just phoned and only offer was free BB (but I was only paying 3.75pm as it was), no budge on line rental and no fibre optic deals even though I told them my speed test came back at 13.4mp. Hmm. Now trying to decide whether to go with plusnet regular broadband or the BT fibre-optic deal that runs out today.

eta: they tried to make out that they don't do tailored deals and that this deal was only one they had available and I couldn't really say 'Well I know that's crap because people on MSE got better deals!" haha (well I could, but not sure it would be helpful.)

I am going to leave the fibreoptic deal. Might take Sky up on this final offer so to not have to deal with hassle of change, or might switch to the plusnet deal. Need to factor in price of router delivery and installation charge, plus service reviews. Any advice? Are plusnet any good generally?
  • Just to note Plusnet charge 99p for caller ID each month, Sky don't.

Sky offered £50 and free broadband to try and match Plusnet.
  • Was paying £71.15 per month for fibre broadband (38mb) Skytalk with Anytime and free international calls to certain destinations, SkyTV variety and line rental. Got rid of basic SkyTV and asked for something compatible to BT offer of £34.50 for fibre, anytime calls, line rental and international calls.

Reduced to £35.40 for line rental, Sky Anytime calls and line rental. I will live with the small cost of calls to Germany I make to my brother, it should not cost to much.

So a saving of around £39.00 per month, or £10 if you exclude the SkyTV. As I have Freeview this doesn't matter.

A result I would say and I will definitely look at this again in 12 months.

i spoke to sky and i was informed i couldn't have a discount as currently i am getting free sky family HD. If i did leave sky for broadband i would now have to pay £36 a month for the tv and it can't be cancelled for 4 months. should i try calling back and see whats on offer?
  • Hi,

On 22nd August 2015, via chat with one of the SKY advisors, I agreed a new 12 month contract (recontract) for the total of £22.40 a month, which comprised £16.40 for line rental, £1 for 1571 voice mail, £5 for SKY Talk Anytime calls and free 12 months unlimited broadband – with no extra surcharge for not having SKY TV.

Had the increase letter advising me of the new prices from 1st December stating that line rental will increase to £17.40 per month, SKY 1571 Voicemail will be cost £1.25 per month and the new SKY Talk “ANYTIME EXTRA” package will be £8 per month on top of that.

How can they do this when I have only recently locked into a new 12 month contract at £22.40 per month for 12 months until July 2016?

    This is not right.

I still want anytime calls and calls to mobiles is great for basically £3 a month more, but I am still in a renegotiated 12 month contract until July 2016.

    :(
