So can anyone who is with sky confirm they got a good deal when they renegotiated ?
  • Hi,

I've decided to leave sky due to the recent announcement of an increase in charges.

I cancelled with sky last week and placed an order with another broadband provider at the same time. Then I was told this morning by the new provider that they cannot process my order because I've cancelled my sky account before moving to them. So I contacted sky today and have the termination request removed.

My question/concern now is that whether there would be a penalty cost imposed by sky when leaving. The activation date I am given by the new provider is 19 Nov but I was being notified the extra charge by Sky on 05 Oct. And my line will be still active with sky on 5 Nov, this is more than 30 days allowed to leave without penalty by Sky!!!

Your input on this would be greatly appreciated!

It's usual that you have to notify them that you are leaving within 30 days rather than actually leave within 30 days.
We hope you continue to choose Sky. But if you're not happy with any of these changes and you don't want to change your package, you can cancel your Sky Communications Products. If you're within your minimum contract period, call us within 30 days of receiving your notification to avoid early termination charges.

So let them know you plan to leave but don't actually cancel your account.

Had the price increase letter and have rung Sky to say I want to cancel.
Was offered 12 months half price line rental (£8.70). My free broadband finishes in February and will go up to £7.50 but they said I can call back and re-negotiate that then. I think I won't have much luck though as I will be in a 12 month phone contract.
Different contracts for phone and broadband are a pain.

Any advice ? Stick with Sky and take half price line rental for 12 months or jump to BT or Plusnet and get cashback.

    Plusnet:
    £63 cashback with TopCashBack
    Unlimited 17Mb Broadband
    £2.50 a month for 12 months then £9.99 a month
    £16.99 line rental
    £0.99 caller ID
    £3 free evenings and weekends

    BT:
    £140 Quidco
    £50 Sainsburys giftcard
    £17.99 line rental
    £7.50 broadband
    weekend calls included (not evenings)

The deals offered are almost always those that have inclusive calls only at the weekend. These deals expose callers to call charges of around 17p per call plus about 10p or 11p per minute for calls made to 01, 02 and 03 numbers on weekdays. Just a couple of calls per week, each only a few minutes long, will see you paying much more per month than if you had taken an Anytime call plan. If you make more than about five to ten minutes of weekday calls per week, do not take a weekend call plan as it will be a false economy.

Good point. As much as I try to tell everyone at home not to use the phone before 7pm I know it won't happen and the call charges will quickly add up. I'll pay £8 a month for Anytime Extra.

I've rung Sky and accepted the half price line rental for 12 months. It seems like it extends the broadband contract as well but I have been happy with Sky broadband so can review it all again in October 2016.

If you went to Plusnet Business you would have got anytime talk and unlim broadband for like £18.49/mo + £42 or so TCB

    https://www.plus.net/business/deals/unlimited-business-broadband/anytime/

I'm tempted for Plusnet business + no talk bundle which works out £14.49/mo and cheaper than Sky £17.50/mo and another £42 in the bag

I got £100 gift card from Sky already and pending £63 from TCB for my Sky order (hoping it goes through soon so I can cancel Sky within the 30 days)

Line rental and BB are always one contract. TV is a separate contract.

Rang Sky today as got the price increase letter.

No mention of the half price line rental (£8.70) do you specifically have to mention the Cancel word for it to be offered?

Yes. Tell them you want to move to BT or PlusNet as they are increasing their price. Say you have been happy with Sky and can they compete with the prices offered by the other 2.
The girl who took my call offered 50% off rental nearly straight away. I didn't need to haggle, just asked what they can do.

Let us know how you get on.
