E.ON uSwitch Fixed 1 Collective Oct 15

This is weird. My email from E-On, telling me that my year on "Fixed Year v10 Elec Only UR" was ending, couldn't offer anything cheaper for next year than the Energy Fixed 1 Year v16 plan, which was £380 a year more expensive. I phone their switch team, and I was told (rather abruptly, I have to say) that that (the Fixed 1 Year v16) was the best they could do.
So I went to uSwitch, where I knew from looking before that there were cheaper tariffs around (e.g. from Flow), and there I saw this E-On Collective Oct 15 one, which was cheaper by over £100 p.a. than the one that's coming to an end (it wasn't there the last time I looked) . So I've grabbed it.
What a strange setup! I assume all will go well, since the application seems to have gone through without a hitch. But we shall see.0 -

Hiya Gareth Davies,
I'm sorry it appears a little bit odd
Collective tariffs work differently really, it isn't a tariff that we'll offer on the website and isn't something we can quote you for or change you on to over the phone.
You have to go through the third party website it's offered through, do the quote and switch through there, even if it's just staying with us and changing your tariff.
It's always good to have a look at the comparison sites and Malc and I always suggest this on here.
Sounds like it's going through smoothly though, if you need me just ask

This is down to OFGEM regulations and has been discussed at length in the recent MSE/uswitch collective threads.
Just a quirk of the rule books to make our lives simpler by forcing all energy companies to have only 4 tariffs so these collective deals are technically outside of the energy company's listed tariffs and on;ly available via 3rd parties such as uSwitch or MSE.
I switched from my Eon fixed tariff using the MSE collective switch last month and didn't have any issues.0 -

...I'm on my 3rd tariff with EON in 11 months - two of which were collective deals involving an internal switch.(Energyhelpline and USwitch)
Initially I joined EON from OVO via MSE Cheap Energy Club.
Its worth registering with all of these comparison engines -these collective switches have saved me ~ £260pa and I've had £75 cashback!!!0 -
Morning safe cracker
With us you can be on a single rate tariff or Economy 7 tariff, even if you have an economy 7 rate meter, so you can choose.
I can't really give much advise on the specific savings via the comparison site, as this is a third party site.
I can say to always use your usage in kWh when doing comparisons though, as this makes it much more accurate
If you need me though, just ask.

Many thanks for such a quick response Helena. The USwitch calculation was indeed performed based on my anticipated kWh usage (rather than past monthly expenditure), so I guess that the saving will materialise (providing that my estimate is true!). In my case, the reason that the single-tariff works out cheaper than the Economy 7 double-tariff is owing to the fact that I only use about 25% of my electricity at night. So, are you confirming that if I select the answer of "No" to the question of "Do you have an Economy 7 meter?" on the USwitch website and then go ahead with the process of ordering the single-rate tariff, then E.on will indeed put me on that requested tariff even though my previous v9 tariff (which expired today) was on the Economy 7 double-rate tariff. I guess my slight concern is that it may confuse the folk at E.on processing things??!0 -

Wasn't meant to come across as a rebuke so I'm sorry if it read that way to you. Difference between my intentions and my writing style.0 -

Helena's not around at the moment safe cracker so hope you don't mind me popping on instead. Just to confirm, if you select 'No' to Economy 7, you'll go on to the single rate version of the tariff.
Don't worry about confusing us. Customers moving between one and two rate tariffs is something we're used to. In fact, provided there's an Economy 7 meter in place and they're registered with our website, it's something that can be done online too.
Hope this helps safe cracker. Let me know if you've any more queries as happy to help.

Morning Cazzy1987,
So pleased things are going wellsuper to hear!
In the change of supplier process, the customer would normally give the start reads to the new supplier, they would then send these reads to your old supplier via some third parties to verify etc.
This can all take a little bit of time and is all done electronically, you can of course give your old supplier the reads as well.
Our start reads and the final reads need to be the same, this is to ensure there's no overlapping and the make sure the charges are correct.
So, as you've given us your start reads we'll send these to the old supplier to produce your final bill, the reads are normally sent within around 32 working days, sometimes sooner.
Hope this helps
Helena
When logging in to our account it still isn't showing any opening balance and we have been switched since 22nd October, just wondering how long it takes to see the opening meter reading that we provided?
Thanks0 -

It is a strange set-up.
It's as if e.on's whole strategy for gaining new customers is now based on collective deals rather than its own retail tariffs being attractive in their own right.
It may seem attractive anyway to most of the customers on the collective deals, but if there is a period when competitive rates are falling in several successive months, but no new collective deals, and a chunky transfer fee, there might be less chance of further savings for those people.
This effectively happened from about a year ago until March, and it makes me wonder about the next few months.0
