  • Hi savetilibleed

You can certainly go for paper billing. It just means you'll lose the discount (£5 per fuel per year) for paperless. You can switch to paper billing online or over the phone.

Going for this option won't affect other aspects of the online account. It's still okay to give meter readings this way or even issue your own bills. This is through a tool called 'Real Time Billing.' Here, when readings are entered, there's the option of seeing the balance that would result or actually creating a bill. The only time this won't be available is if a bill is due. At this time (14 days either side of the next bill date for quarterly customers), the first set of readings received will automatically create a bill.

Paying the whole quarterly bill with a Variable Direct Debit is possible too but more expensive as you'll lose out on the lower daily standing charges. These are only available to customers paying with a Monthly Direct Debit.

Hope this answers your questions savetilibleed. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Thank you Malc! I've taken the plunge just in time and set the wheels in motion to 'uswitch' to this collective switch! Monthly DD. I have the confirmation email. I've set it all in my wife's name as the current billing (EDF and BG) is in her name so I wasn't sure if giving my name might cause a problem. I have set DD to a joint account of ours not presently used for any meaningful DDs.

Thanks, I'd not heard of that one, but for me the UK Power deal is a little more expensive that the uSwitch one, though both are slightly cheaper than the MSE offer.

For reference all the deals have the same standing charge, it's only the unit prices that appear to differ, so for me in the Eastern region:

    MSE: gas=2.855, elec=9.470
    UK Power: gas=2.829, elec=9.448
    uSwitch: gas=2.804, elec=9.370

    (all excluding VAT)

I am not actually an Eon customer but in the London area, the ex-VAT prices for the 3 tariffs are:

    UK Power: gas=2.784, elec=9.486
    MSE: gas=2.978, elec=10.080
    uSwitch: gas=2.978, elec=10.140

As you say, the standing charges do indeed appear to be the same.

I see MSE is now promoting a new BG collective fix in its weekly newsletter as well with cashback (though the UKPower deal is just cheaper otherwise for a average user).

    Regards
    Sunil

With all these "OFFERS" I was just musing.......how many new customers are EON actually getting? I suspect that large numbers of the applications are from serial switchers like me:rotfl:

Interesting, the UK Power advantage is much more significant there.

Either way I've gone with uSwitch since the offer was about to expire. The tariff is slightly cheaper, and if the cashback does actually get paid then that's just an added bonus.

You're welcome savetilibleed. Glad to help.

Changes of supplier usually go through in about two and half weeks. This includes the cooling off period (14 days). Putting in your wife's name shouldn't be a problem particularly as your current accounts are in her name. If you register with our website, you can keep an eye on the switch through a tool called 'Track My Switch.'

It may be longer before the online account updates with all the information. Readings and other details are passed between the two suppliers and certain third parties (regional distributor, meter operator, meter reading agent, national database etc) via a series of electronic messages. These messages let all those involved with your energy supply know about the changed circumstances. This won't affect the start date and, once everything's through, you'll be able to see the details online as well as having access to the various website tools.

Thanks for taking the plunge savetilibleed and hope this is of interest.

I used TopCashBack to get to Uswitch site for this tariff change from EHL EON tariff to Uswitch one. The cash back claim is not showing -anybody else had this problem ? I've submitted a missing cashback claim with TCB but nothing yet.

E-On's first email said I will be asked for meter readings sometime between 17 Nov and 1 Dec. Second email (13/11/15) says switch underway and about three days from then I'll be asked for meter readings. Switch sound be complete 24/11/15.
Today I got a normal quarterly scheduled EDF bill requiring my readings which I have supplied to them today. That generated a new balance and I will get the amended bill in a few days. Just wanted to ask that because I have just provided EDF with readings and with your request expected, will this cause confusion as I understand the readings I supply to E-On will also go to the other suppliers I'm switching away from. Also if the date I provide readings to you is several days before switchover, how is the owing amounts apportioned?
    Thanks

    1. There is no "apportioning " of the bill; the readings you give EON as initial will be used as the final readings for EDF regardless of whether they are a few days before switch complete. Provided that these are greater than the readings you have recently supplied to EDF you shouldn't have a problem:)
There have been cases reported where the losing supplier has asked for readings after the start readings have been given to the new supplier -now that can cause problems !!!:(

..still not appearing on my TCB account - wonder if USwitch are "disqualifying" internal switches for cashback ???:(

Not to my knowledge as I used TopCashBack/uSwitch to switch from the MSE 1 Year Collective to the uSwitch 1Year Collective on 18th October, it tracked within an hour and the cashback for it has already been paid.

Having said that I have had a few problems with TopCashBack not tracking on a couple of things over the last few months and I've done nothing different to those which did track successfully. In my experience TopCashBack seem less than interested when things don't work as expected.

Obvious things to check - have you got an adblocker enabled in your browser or not cleared your history/cookies before applying? I have now started to use a separate browser for any cashback sites.
