I've been under a rock for the last month and somehow managed to miss the "Eon MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Sept 2015" offer.

However I've just received an email from uSwitch today about their own "E.ON uSwitch Fixed 1 Collective Oct 15" offer.

My current E.ON plan is the "E.ON Energy Dual Fuel Fixed 1Year v14 paperless" which ends on 12/01/2016.

My current annual energy bill estimate on my existing plan is £2,569. This would increase to £3,128 once I am moved back over to E.ON's standard tariff.

If I take uSwitch's offer, my annual bill is estimated to be £2,200, a very decent saving if correct. I'm not sure how this saving would have compared to the "Eon MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Sept 2015", but no point in crying over spilt milk I guess!

As I've never switched before using uSwitch I'd like to ask for feedback from forumers about the process. Was it an easy process or were there any issues? I'm assuming that as I am already an E.ON customer, and am therefore just switching tarrif and not supplier, there isn't really a lot in the switching process that can go wrong?

We switched from EnergyPlan to uSwitch (haven't switched plans ever so about 20 years!), just fill in the uSwitch form and wait. No action needed after, you'll get a email to confirm tariff change and that's all you need to do!

uSwitch did mention that Eon had a huge back log so may take some time for switch to occur so took us about 2-3 weeks from time of applying. Perhaps thats cleared now.

...I'm on my 3rd tariff with EON in 11 months - two of which were collective deals involving an internal switch.(Energyhelpline and USwitch)
Initially I joined EON from OVO via MSE Cheap Energy Club.
Its worth registering with all of these comparison engines -these collective switches have saved me ~ £260pa and I've had £75 cashback!!!

UKPower also have an collective deal available atm- and surprise, surprise - the winner is EON again.

EDIT: Its about £90/year cheaper for me than the uswitch EON deal! (though everyone's usage will vary)

Well there's a 14 day cooling off period so it's always going to take over 2 weeks to switch.

Hi Malc, we did indeed touch base on another thread, well remembered! Yes, all good thanks and I hope the same is true for you :) Thanks very much for all of the information; appreciated as always.

I was aware of the direct debit management tool thank you. I just wanted to be sure that by filling in the direct debit mandate on the form I wouldn't end up with two set up.

My current tariff runs until January but this collective one will represent a saving so I am pleased to be able to stay with E.ON as I find the service to be very good and having the expertise of you and Helena available to assist with enquiries is a big part of that.

Thanks for the good wishes for the weekend, you too!

    Kind regards,

    Tracey

    Hi Tracey

Glad to help and thanks for the kind words. They're much appreciated. I'll let Helena know too. :)

Thanks for the feedback regarding the direct debit Dave, fingers crossed then!

    Best wishes,

    Tracey

As brewerdave says, the Direct Debit will only be set up once. It's just that, on third party applications like the uSwitch one, all the fields need to be completed. The forms cover both customers switching supplier as well as those changing tariffs. Direct Debit details are needed for those joining but not necessarily for existing customers. It's best to have the one form though as makes life a bit simpler. When they reach us, they're handled manually by a specialist team who sift out the ones changing tariffs internally where a payment arrangement isn't necessary.

I switched successfully at the weekend and also helped father-in-law do the same. I also told a friend about this deal and she switched too; £785 annual saving for the three of us!

I know it ends tomorrow but if you are going to swap, and are using an iPad to do it, just make sure you have all details to hand before starting the form. I needed to go to my document repository to see which date my DD goes out on and had to start again.

Great result Tracey and good advice about using an iPad.

Is either paper quarterly billing available from E.ON during uswitch with a meter reading provided by me so each bill is actual usage? Quarterly whole bill DD is also OK.

    Hi savetilibleed

You can certainly go for paper billing. It just means you'll lose the discount (£5 per fuel per year) for paperless. You can switch to paper billing online or over the phone.

Going for this option won't affect other aspects of the online account. It's still okay to give meter readings this way or even issue your own bills. This is through a tool called 'Real Time Billing.' Here, when readings are entered, there's the option of seeing the balance that would result or actually creating a bill. The only time this won't be available is if a bill is due. At this time (14 days either side of the next bill date for quarterly customers), the first set of readings received will automatically create a bill.

Paying the whole quarterly bill with a Variable Direct Debit is possible too but more expensive as you'll lose out on the lower daily standing charges. These are only available to customers paying with a Monthly Direct Debit.

Hope this answers your questions savetilibleed. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

    Hi Futuristic

Glad the switch has gone through. For existing customers changing tariff as you did, we're still looking at up to 10 days to complete. This is from when we receive the email from uSwitch to when the tariff is changed. It will, though, be back dated to when the email was received.

Emails have been coming through from uSwitch within 24 hours of customers applying. The delay is ours as collective switches are handled manually by a dedicated team rather than going through the automated system.

It's different for customers changing supplier as they go through a separate system. These usually complete within two and half weeks although it may be longer before all the information's through. This won't affect the start dates as per my post above in reply to Cazzy1987 (post number 133). The two and half weeks includes the cooling off period alibean121 mentions. Customers changing supplier can keep an eye on things through the 'Track My Switch' tool on our website.

Hope this is of interest Futuristic.

Spot on alibean121. There's a 14 day cooling off period for customers changing supplier. These switches usually complete in about two and half weeks in total. It may, though, be longer before all the details are through. As above in my replies to Futuristic (post 147) and Cazzy1987 (post 133), this won't affect the start dates. Also, anyone in this boat can keep an eye on how things are going through the 'Track My Switch' tool on our website.

Just had an email to say that my Cheap Energy Club cashback for the MSE collective switch has been paid. So do I now switch to this uSwitch collective tariff (which is marginally cheaper), claiming another £30 cashback via QuidCo? Is there any reason not to do so?

You may find the UK Power Eon Collective tariff even cheaper than uSwitch - which I posted about a short while go - not sure if cashback is available on that though..

Thanks, I'd not heard of that one, but for me the UK Power deal is a little more expensive that the uSwitch one, though both are slightly cheaper than the MSE offer.

For reference all the deals have the same standing charge, it's only the unit prices that appear to differ, so for me in the Eastern region:

    MSE: gas=2.855, elec=9.470
    UK Power: gas=2.829, elec=9.448
    uSwitch: gas=2.804, elec=9.370

    (all excluding VAT)
