I used a BBC food recipe - just search 'slow cooker dhal'. I vaguely remember adding in some red lentils part way through as I thought it was too wetI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Good Evening GCers,
I'd like to join in if I may, I know it's half way through the month but I'm a grocery challenge virgin and this has only become necessary in the last week since I've become unemployed, or a happy housewife to put it another way. Working out our entire budget I've found that if I can keep our grocery budget down to £125 per month which is for two people, all meals and includes cleaning products and toiletries, also a few treats for two large dogs, then we can just about afford for me to stay at home. Hopefully that's doable. I do have a well stocked larder and freezer, but hoping to pick up more tips on here along the way. Maybe I'll be able to pass some on too.
I'm a bit foggy about how much I have left to spend this month so I'm just going to keep it as low as possible and post what I spend. Any hints and tips would be gratefully received. Thanks for reading.
Luv Paula x0 -

Evening all, I managed a NSD today, and yesterday. However, I'm now slightly gutted, as my microwave has died, so I'm going to have to get a new one tomorrow.
It has crossed my mind to wait and see whether I can do without it, but I do think it's an essential for me. Living alone, I tend to cook a meal for four and then freeze three portions, so most of my cooking during the week is of the "defrost and sling in the micro" variety.
It's gutting when this kind of thing happens, and shows how tight my overall financial budget really is! I do wish I had a few more quid coming in the house.2025 goals

DH decided to 'treat himself' and came back from the hairdresser via F Foods with a frozen half duck in orange sauce - £3.96  Oh well, it doesn't happen often and he can have that on Friday when he's on late shift and we eat separately
Have to go shopping the morrow for weekly essentials such as milk, f & v and stuff for pack-ups. Hope to keep it low though.
Hope you all have a super Sunday

Admittedly we did a mega shop today (over £150!) so have plenty to keep us going but not for 2 whole weeks. We clearly havent budgeted properly for the half term holidays, we have overspent by about £80 so far.
We will try and stretch it out.....:(Total Credit Used...=........£9,000 / £52,700

Hi everyone,
Spent more than I wanted to yesterday as there were offers on the butter I like and the veggie sausages that my son has. On the plus side when I was squeezing the sausages into the freezer I found six mystery meals in freezer bags

Just popping in to say hello, and ask if anyone has any suggestions on what to do with a small mountain of leftover beansprouts (the stir fry one's, not the sprouted seeds)?
I've got about 500g leftover uncooked, as well as a couple of leeks, an onion, a yellow and a green pepper, a bag of spinach, a ton of mushrooms, and (most of) a cooked chicken.
Ideally I want to make something for lunches for the next few days - I was wondering about just throwing it all in a pasta bake with tomatoes, but that seems a little uninspired...That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
