There is no mention in T&C's of the b&b website of any charges for toiletries, it was one 250ml bottle of handwash and one 250ml bottle of shower gel. How are they to know that we did not consume the whole contents of the bottles during our stay?

Unless you're the world record holder for the worlds smelliest person you're hardly to use that all in just one nights stay!

But this is MSE where most people always support the trader, not the real world.

No they support the trader and the real world.

Are you a millionaire business person? I very much doubt it so your post is just consumer biased speculation!

It's about future business and goodwill, a concept beyond you obviously.

Maybe the B&B owner doesn't want future business from people who walk off with stuff that doesn't belong to them.

Especially if they are working on very small profit margins.

I just think it's rude of the OP to walk off with 2 bottles of toiletries that are clearly not 'one-use only' size.

    They probably don't.

I don't think the OP should have taken the bottles, but if it was my B &B I would of just put it down to experience and not use it as an excuse to make extra profit.

But consensus on this topic is most people agree OP was wrong to take the items and don't hold the B and B at fault. If they then go and tell 23 others, then those 23 may also agree with the majority here so no harm done to the B and B.

Hence the saying that theres no such thing as bad publicity. Or - if you prefer oscar wilde - the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.

But unless they tell them prior to booking that they must only use 25 ml (or similar), the customer could empty that entire bottle down the sink and theres nothing the B&B could do about it.

Again, someone compared it to a mini bar - but a mini-bar has a price list. With no price list/agreed contract in place for the purchase of the toiletries, it would then come down to whether OP was in breach of contract or not.

If yes, the B&B would only be entitled to their actual losses caused by the breach - they can't make a profit/receive a betterment from it. And if not, then they wouldnt be able to charge anything at all.

60 or so posts and once the size of the bottles taken was revealed most not having a lot of sympathy for OP. Add me to that list.
All you need to do is have your decency and honesty medically tested and then take the pills for a while and you won't be tempted again. Do you also come home from holidays with a selection of towels and dressing gowns as well as wholesale toiletries? do your guests get served tea in individual sachets and offered some of that rather nice shortbread. Oh and do you have Corby Trouser Presses in all your rooms?
