Charged for toiletries

Hi
My partner and i recently stayed in a B&B for one night over the bank holiday and on departure decided to take the soap and shower gel that we had been using which was supplied by the B&B owners. A few hours later they left a message on my voicemail saying they wanted the toiletries returned or they would charge me. I ignored the message as i didnt think it would be possible for them to charge me without giving them my card details again. This week without my permission they have charged my card £10 which is 5 times the price that the products are available for on the brands own website. I am very unhappy about this as firstly toiletries are complimentary and second they did not have permission to take money from my account. What i want to know is who do i make a complaint to and are they entitled to charge me for toiletries?
Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated
Jon

Just because you have used them does not make them yours. If they say in the terms of booking that they can charge you for doing things like that then they can charge you.0

What did it say when you booked? Was there any mention of 'chargeable toiletries'?Dwy galon, un dyhead,
Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
Dau enaid ond un taith.0 -
I'd have expected that any toiletries left in the bathroom were "mine"..... if they want to sell them then they should be on a price list somewhere.
Did they charge you for the biscuits/coffee in the room? £1/sugar sachet used?0 -
Using and taking are two different things though.
I use the TV in hotel rooms, doesn't mean I can take it with me.0 -

The television is not a consumable like toiletries though, is it ? Pretty daft analogy that one.0 -
They can charge you the same way a hotel does. You give them your card details with permission to charge it for any mini bar, restaurant and in this case toiletries you use.
They even offered to let you return the items which you ignored, they then charged your account because you ignored their request.
B&B's are not hotels usually small businesses offering a cheap service, extras to be paid for even toiletries.0 -

So what would they do with your half used toiletries - give them to someone else to use?

Who knows, maybe refill with other half empty ones to keep costs down?0 -
Was it the usual 'single serving' hotel toiletries, or a full sized bottle? If it's the former, you'd legitimately expect it to be free. If the latter, it would seem that it's been left in the room until it's empty, much like the toilet rolls tend to be.
Depending on the T&Cs you agreed to you might be able to get it back, but for £10 it's probably not worth the aggro. Tell your story on their TripAdvisor page and leave it at that.0
