That's rather positive news if true.
That sounds excellent news. You got to wonder why they don't have this in their T&Cs?0 -
Now they tell us.
I went to Shell, despite the 109.9p price, when it was 107.9 down the road at Sainsburys. The contactless machine wouldn't take the TSB Debit card, so I whipped out the Santander 123 credit card, because it should give 3% cashback. Should have paid with the TSB using the PIN, then.
By the way, keep it below £20 unless you know the machine
I went to a Pub, which does take contactless, but the bar maid says it only takes £20 for contactless, because it hasn't been updated. Guess what, took an item off the lunch order, so it came down to £18, and then it still wanted the PIN!0 -
TSB have retracted their earlier statementTSB_Twitter wrote:
I’m really sorry, I provided you with incorrect information earlier.
We’ve been informed that if a card terminal requests a contactless payment to verified by your PIN, this in fact, will not be eligible for the 5% cashback.
I sincerely apologise for any confusion caused.
Which explains why the T&Cs do not say it will count, and why they will not update the T&Cs to say it will count.0 -
I wonder how many customers now just won't bother with the offer? Wouldn't cashiers find it a bit odd/possibly raise suspicions of fraud as someone whips an alternative card out whenever the terminal asks for their PIN?0

I've just received another message stating the same... That's a shame really.0 -

Boots have gone contactless but it failed this morning with a £28 purchase, the manager said they have had a communication that they are changing to £30 but has never seen a >£20 transaction work yet. It came up as payment failed on her screen and I put my MBNA card in for 0.5% instead0

I just attempted to use two TSB cards for a contactless payment at Co op which does have this facility but, it just wouldn't work. Paid with a credit card instead.
My average using two TSB cards contactless in the last two weeks is about eight accepted and four declines, not a great average and then there's the mucking about at the till while I try my other TSB card and if that fails a credit card which is what I just did to buy a £1.29 pork pie:o
There can't really be a way to get cashback for transactions that are refused contactless and then need the PIN. If the card readers were that sophisticated they would work in the f.... first place!:)
So even my cunning plan of trying the other TSB card if the first is declined for contactless doesn't always work. But with the PIN it ALWAYS works!?:cool:0 -
.... same old sorry here. 2 attempts at contactless today. Both unsuccessful.
Transactions less than £200 -

I paid £28 in Boots by contactless last week on my TSB with only a small hiccup (the first card said unsuccessful, the second worked first time).
However today, both cards came back as Contactless Unsuccessful for a £22 Boots spend...
I rang TSB to query, especially after reading of the issues here. Apparently, the problem is that I'm keeping my cards either too close to my phone, or they are being damaged by being in my purse with other contactless cards.
Now, my TSB cards have been in my purse around 2 weeks since the cashback started. I have had other contactless cards for about 4 years now (there are a grand total of around 5 contactless cards in the same purse, and that has been the case for years). I've not once had an issue with any of these in all that time.
I asked if it was a problem with TSB cards only, the lady advised that it was all contactless cards that would be affected by being together, similar to a hotel room key.
Now, I for one am not convinced this is the case, but I will continue on in my TSB contactless quest nonetheless.0
