According to the UK Card Association Website, the increase from £20 to £30 is to be rolled out among retailers between 1 September and 31 October.

My local Brewers Fayre has had contactless terminals installed in the last few weeks so I assume nationwide.

I loaded up 8 x £25 gift cards(*) at Waitrose tonight, to complete my £100 contactless purchases on my 2 TSB Plus cards for September . The cashier wasn't terribly pleased with all the individual transactions but she conceded that she would not have a problem serving 8 customers in a row, each spending £25.

Hoping for ApplePay on TSB cards before long.

    * You can have any amount on the Waitrose gift cards.

That's interesting: I used my card in Iceland yesterday morning, but when I went back in the afternoon (my wife said she needed something!) I couldn't use the contactless card and wondered if two transactions on the same day was the problem, but your experience would suggest not.

I am a little surprised that they don't try and restrict things in that way.

It would be very odd if you were not allowed to use your debit card as often as you like and whenever you like. Available funds allowing, obviously.

If Iceland do accept contactless, you probably just got caught by the random need to use chip & PIN on contactless. If this happened to me, I'd pay with a different card (one on which I get cashback), and then re-active contactless on the TSB card by buying something for a few pence (paper, chocolate bar etc) with a normal chip & PIN transaction.
  • It might have been mentioned already, but does anyone else find the new TSB web advert incredibly annoying? I really hate adverts that make what I'm trying to read jump around the screen.

what about asking to split the purchase. buy 1 item with C&P and then the remainder by CL?

There are many scenarios where a bill is split

    1. Restaurant.

Seven people all hand over their credit cards, and pay £6.23 each. Contactless will make it quicker than Chip & PIN. Wait till one guy says: "I didn't have a drink, I should pay less."
    I weep for the waiter.

    2. Duty Free

They are really good. You pay with the last of your Thai Baht, then Hong Kong dollars, and then say I want to pay the rest on my credit card.

Even with a regular till, they can let you make multiple part payments in the same currency, in cash, as well as credit card, but obviously the operator has to be trained to do it.

£7.42 at Waitrose, the till does Contactless, but will not accept TSB VISA Debit card by Contactless.
    Chip& PIN did work.

I assume this is an initial check, and future attempts will work.

The Waitrose gift card idea is very good.

As I try to spend around £6 a week, to qualify for the free Sunday Times, I can't do it every month, but as a temporary stop gap for soaking up the September £100, I can't fault it.

If I was diplomatic, I could do £25 every Sunday, then the staff can't complain too much. Alas, £6 plus £25 is £31, so I still have to do two bills.
