I have just completed the switch from M&S Energy to the EON using the Energy Club .Hope it all goes to plan. I am always anxious when I change provider . So much so that I have stayed under the SSE umbrella (Atlantic Go Direct 5 and then M&S).
It would appear that I will save a substantial amount had it been just a little then I would not have made the change

Has anyone else found this problem? Can I switch to the collective tariff directly with E.On since I'm already with them?

No to comply with Ofgem regulations, it has to be via the third party (that is, MSE CEC). I am not sure that I understand the reference to Northern Ireland. Where is the property located?

I am also attempting to switch from the E.On fixed v16 tariff, but as my previous previous address was in NI, the switch form won't allow me to proceed (it states that "comparisons can't be provided for addresses in Northern Ireland" - but my current address is in England).

Has anyone else found this problem? Can I switch to the collective tariff directly with E.On since I'm already with them?
Is your address as held in your CEC profile in NI perhaps ?
  • I would just like to say, (as it's been said on another thread,) I've been with EON almost four years now, and I've had nothing but excellent customer service, no problems at all, (i shouldn't tempt fate,) and i believe i was one of the first to use their smart meter system, which I've also had no problems with, in fact it's been invaluable to me. You don't hear about satisfied customers?

I've just switched with the collective switch on Saturday although the price is negligible compared with my current tariff (EON Energy Fixed 1 Year v 12,) which ends in October.

I've found something to watch out for when you are getting your quotes from the Cheap Energy Club. I entered my current tariff when obtaining the quote and I've tried to edit my current tariff details in the CEC, but the CEC is still giving me a quote based on a standard tariff, which says i will save £223 a year. As my annual costs in total are around £680, this is impossible? so i would advise anyone to sit down and do some simple maths before switching. It's easy to calculate yourself your current costs per kwh and the standing charges versus your new charges. Having done that, as my standing charge will be exactly the same but i will save approximately 3000 pennies in the year, which is a HUGE difference from the £223 the Cheap Energy Club says i will save, (a saving of around £30 in the year,) plus the £30 cashback, making a total saving of around £60.

Obviously it's still worth the switch combined with the £30 cashback, but i will still be watching for further changes to the EON tariffs. But that's a bit naughty of the Cheap Energy Club and i'd advise anyone to do your own sums first. I don't know if this has happened to other people? Perhaps they don't even notice? But that complaint is with the Cheap Energy Club and not with EON.

Aside from that there are also other benefits with EON, such as the paperless billing discount, the dual fuel discount, the direct debit discount and the EON rewards points scheme. They also offer the Warm Home Discount Scheme. Even being such a low user, I've still managed to amass £15 of shopping vouchers or double in Tatco clubcard points over the course of the year.

I'm not too worried about the exit charges as the likelihood is i'll stay with EON for the foreseeable future. I can't find anyone to match what they offer.

Taking everything into consideration, EON have been blimmin excellent, if you ask me, and no, i don't and never have, worked for them. Just a satisfied customer.

Lets hope the switch goes smoothly now a third party is involved?
Fred - Where's your get up and go?

    Hi Banana_octopus

You can't swap to the collective tariff through Eon, but if you drop an email to energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com we'll take a look for you.

    Hi FredandWilma

I just wanted to clarify that your Cheap Energy Club account should default to comparing against your current fixed tariff's costs, unless it only has a few weeks to go (it sounds like it does in your case).

On your results page you should have received three figures:
    1) Current Tariff Costs and Savings
    2) Costs after your fix expires (standard tariff)
    3) Costs over 12 months if you do nothing

It sounds like you might have missed this (there's no need to do the manual calculations yourself), but if you could drop a note to energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com we'd be happy to check that all the details are showing correctly on your account.

I hope this helps clarify things for you.

Hi banana_octopus and welcome to the Forums. Not sure about this one so I'd take Dan up on his offer to help. Thanks Dan.

Hi fredandwilma and thanks very much for the kind words. They're really appreciated. I'm glad it's not just the prices you're happy with but other stuff, like Smart Meters, too.

The Fixed 1 Year version 12 tariff ran from 29 October 14 to 27 November 14. As Dan says, it's in its last few weeks. Generally, our tariffs are all on our website. It's only things like collective tariffs where customers need to go through a third party that won't appear on there.

Have you opted in for Price Alerts? Just a quick heads up if you have. This is an online service where we send you an email to let you know when a newer version of a fixed tariff is available. As the MSE Collective is a standalone tariff, there won't be future versions so Price Alerts don't apply.

Hope this helps and thanks again for taking the time to post fredandwilma.
