  • I attempted to call earlier and the offshore agent said he was gonna transfer me through to Retentions and cut me off. Will try again at lunch time.
  • I wonder if Sky's recent lack of deals has anything to do with the launch of Sky VIP. I welcome the free film/dvd (worth £13.99) and the free sky go extra, though it won't stop me haggling in 6 months!

I went onto live chat tonight as my current TV offer is due to expire at the end of August. My free broadband offer is in contract until October. I was offered the following deal:

Box sets + Sky Cinema, and 2 multi room £55.80pm for 12 months, broadband £5pm for 18 months with line rental at £18.99pm for a total cost of £79.79pm.

I said that this was a bit expensive compared to what I am currently paying for the same package (£59pm) I asked if an account credit would be available if I accepted the offer and was told no. I told him to proceed with the 31 days cancellation notice. Logged into My Sky and it's showing 40% off TV deal. I'll just need to hold out and see if they offer anything better if not they know where to stick it :D

Last year I did my first "cancel, wait, get 50% off". It has been great. It has now come to an end and I'm back paying >£100 a month for the last 2 months, so I'm about to do it all again.

However, I've been with Sky for more than 15 years continuously which means I am now eligible for Black VIP status (free Sky Q box, plus other small extras).

Obviously 50% off for a year is way more valuable than a free Sky Q box - however, I'm worried they won't be offering the great 50 or 60% off deal anymore with the new VIP service now up and running.

Has anyone been offered more than 40% in the last few days?

While not strictly speaking haggling, my 60% discount I have had for the last 11 months has just been automatically renewed for another 12 months by Sky. So there are still offers available for Sky+ customers.

Make sure the next offer you obtain lasts the full 12 months if they insist on another minimum term, so you are not stuck paying the full price for the last 2 months again.

When you say "free Sky Q box..."
does that mean free to rent or free to obtain ?
Also - what other "small extras" can I get ?
I have been a Sky customer for a similar time as you...

Never agree to a 10 month discount for a 12 month contract, always insist on the full term or a rolling monthly contract. Given how long you've been with them with relatively small discounts (if the last one was your first 'cancel and negotiate') then you can do better.

I don't think the VIP offer will affect anyones discounts IMO.
  • I have the full TV package with them (no broadband) and called them last week. I was offered 20% off my bill to make it around £70 a month. I told them I was not happy with this and could only afford £50 max. They said the max they could offer was 20%, so I said I would cancel. I'm now hoping that they call me and ask me to stay by offering me something better (happened to a mate of mine). The annoying thing is that my cousin called them the week before me and they gave him 40%. He decided to stay.
    Nice to save.
