  • I just found out, to my absolute horror, about the change this weekend when I received my bill via email.

Prior to this I had no knowledge that 02 is going to stop including 0844 numbers within the bundled minutes. My bill is more than a £120 - I rang 02, given the run around for about 20 minutes, transferred to 4 different people. Finally spoke to someone who told me that words along the line that "Everyone got a text warning them of the change. You had your chance to do something about it. It's too late now. No Refund is possible, whatsoever".

This naturally ticked me off - first off - neither myself nor my girlfriend got any text about this - and she has yet to receive her bill (we're bracing for another shocker). Nobody informed us, and we blissfully carried on using 0844 numbers. And whatever happened to giving us written notice about a fundamental change of contract - haven't they heard of the Supply of Goods and Services Act???

Finally after much hassle I was told to write in to the Complains Review Service. I'm waiting for my gal's bill to come in - and write in together. This is absolutely awful.

But wait - decide to do a bit of tinkering and here I find that there are others like myself who weren't notified!! A quick look on this very page shows there are at least three others like me. So what gives? Obviously - 02 has a problem. Somehere along the line - their system has messed up. And now we're left to pick up the pieces? There is no way in hell im gonna pay for this - even if it means telling the bank to stop payment on my direct debit. Enough is enough - I'm tired of being bullied by big business.

If I had received noticed this would have been a totally different matter!

Anyone else in the same boat as me? Weigh in! Let's do something about this!

The words "taking my complaint to Ofcom" worked for me with CPW/o2.

By not informing you of the changes, they have again broken the terms of the contract..

    PS
CPWo2 was much more difficult to deal with than o2. Took me from 1/9 to 11/10 to finally leave, and I still dont trust billing.
My online bill disappeared still showing rental to 31/10, despite promises that no money is owed.

If at first they blank you, try and try again, escalating your complaint each time. I had to write, email and phone many times, as each answer was different.

  • I phoned them on 20th Sept to cancel my contract due to charging on 0845 nos. I was on 500mins discount at £20/month and was offered simplicity Sims only "tariff", which is where the con started. I was coned and thinking now I am paying same each month for 100 mins less and pay for 0845 nos but have freedom to terminate my contract/upgrading earlier by giving 30days notice.

Was not sure about it so I rang back the next day to confirm. Was told that i was on sims only deal, which allow me to can cancel... ...

Have a 4 conversation since yeaterday, speaking to 5 people, ranging from customer service to retention team. 3 of 5 people I spoke to sadly denied i was on sims only contract but on simplicity sims only tariff, which means I have to stay until the contract finish, with 100 less mins!! But 2 out 5 people confirm I was on sims only contract!!!!

They promised me to check the recordings within 48 hours. But what is the point?! Clearly, within O2, there are a great confusion regarding sims only tariff and Sims only contract, how should customer like me to tell the difference!

The bottom-line is: I was misadvised/miss-sold a deal and O2 knew that but not going to do anything about it. I will call them everyday from today until it is solved. Thanks for 202 free no.
  • For a start you werent 'coned'.
Secondly stop panicking, they will sort it out.
Thirdly you wont getter a better network provider. Granted that there are some chav networks like three but overall O2 is a winner.

Infact this thread is bizzare, why would you want to get out of an O2 deal when the competition still charge for 08 numbers eh eh eh eh?

    Im outta here.

To get a BT line to dial the 08 numbers? That's what I did.
I was paying £30 per month to O2. Now I pay £10.50 to BT and pay 6p (daytime) and 1.5p (evening) per minute to dial 0870.
  • Do you not have a portable telecommunications device anymore?

Thanks for your comments and advice.

I was offered sth clearly to my disadvantage using confusing terms with impression of sth I want without telling me the whole truth. I was "coned" to pay same money for 100 less mins plus paying for 08_ nos. I do not just blame myself for it.

I hope it was a simple mistake and wish they will sort out a.s.a.p. Will post back here.

I agree with you that O2 is the best operator so far, this is why I have two contract with them and chose to stay with them last year, even recommended 3 friends to O2. This is why I was a bit upset to learn the truth as I have trusted O2.

Yes all other charge 08_ no but why should I not get a better deal from either o2 or sb else in return of losing some benefits? Besides, I was a heavy 08_ no user. No I have to use 18185 instead.

Bottomline is:I like O2 up until yeasterday. Hope they sorted out as you suggesteted. Thanks, in fact I feel a bit better now.

Ive just upgraded my phone to the new sony k850i on o2 Online 35 (600 mins x net anytime, 1000 text, free calls to O2 phones) it should arrive tomorrow.

After reading this I was on the verge of cancelling, I use 1899.com every day and it comes out of my free minutes (0808 number).

Used to used orange until they scrapped free freephone, O2 was a good compromise as 600 mins covers my 1899 use and UK use.

BUT i've just had a thought what would stop me from using 1899's landline geographical number? (020 81 804 804) to continue using my free minutes for 1899?! Anyway they could charge me for this 0208 number? :T

ps. 1899 can be used to ring 0870 0845 numbers cheap!
