I phoned O2 this morning after getting the same text.
I was told that as O2 have changed my contract, I am able to cancel it early.
I still have 7 months left on an 18 month contract, but have been told that I can cancel.
Are you sure you can cancel the contract without to pay an opt out fees?
Just rang them, they quoted me that to get out I need to pay. So the supervisor given me, (to complain) the Head office number: 01132722000
Address:
Cheryl Black
O2 UK
260 Bath Road
Slough SL1 4DX
Will try tomorrow, if everyone phone, write and e-mail O2, they might have to give in or let us have a get out clause free.0 -

I can only go on what I was told, but she said she read the note about the T&C change, and it stated that you can either cancel or change your tarrif.0 -
I've just got off the phone to them and the woman had the details on a sheet she read out and told me I could cancel with 30 days notice with no penalties providing I cancelled within 30 days of receiving the sms from them which was yesterday.0

My 12 months contract with O2 ends in a month's time. I have given my 30 days cancellation notice. This morning someone from O2 called me and offered me:
100 x network mins, no text for £15, with a new Nokia 73, or £100 without. Or
100 mins 50 text £15 with no phone and £75 cashback.
I said I will think about it, and I made a point re the 08 numbers inclusive. She said 3 times that it will be included because mine will be an old tariff. I am not sure can I trust her or not. I have asked her to make a note on my account screen.
I wonder whether this could be true about the old tariffs not being affected? I have an old Leisure Time Plus tariff which I upgraded 2 days ago (20/08) and stayed on the same tariff.
I have not received the text message that others have received so I am wondering whether I am affected by this??
It would be interesting to know from anyone else who has the same tariff and whether they received the text?0 -
I just got an sms from O2 saying they will start charging from 28th September for 0844/5 numbers - Gutted!
Does anyone know what providers still allow 0844 numbers?
My wife just got the same text, so I await mine. We both took out 18 month contracts through CPW back in April.
Not happy because it was used as a selling point when I rang to cancel back in April.Hark at you going all strict0 -
I haven't received it yet either, lets just see what happens. I don't want to cancel as the contract is not going to cost me anything in the end.
But I think I will get a Virgin contract so I can ring 08 numbers via 07744 and the like.0 -
Just got off the phone with CPW. Their stance is that they can't be held responsible for tariff changes by O2 and we are tied in for another 14 months. They are not budging on this.
We intend to follow this through with a letter because at 20p/minute for these numbers this is a significant change to the contract to which we signed up.Hark at you going all strict0 -

The special numbers page says that it affects all contracts so I guess you'll get a text soon!0 -
Any ideas on whether you could cancel and get your cashback up to date. ie in 4 weeks time I'll get the bill I need to claim. Once I've received that should I phone them up and cancel and should my cashback claim still be honoured? I've done it through CPW. It's a free deal so not too bothered but would be nice to cancel then take out another free deal to get another phone/quidco etc.
Just need to make sure that I can still get the cashback.0
