I think the horse boltred on that one , did they not stop 08 being inclusive for new contracts months ago, so a new contract now would not be subject to a "change"

But if you have a good cashback then getting out of the contract (and hence the cashback) is then less attractive - especially as you are likely to have to pay at least 2 or 3 months.

RE getting a new contract no longer being relevant, my understanding is that new cpw (e2save osps) o2 contracts currently still include 08 numbers?

I upgraded on 20/4 to take effect 26/4 , and then on heraring bthe news I got them to confirm in writing ( in May)

i think im guna cancel and get a sim only deal, my phones still usable for the time being until i need a contract

Click on this and you will see that calling CPW (0870 111 7200) will still be free.

BUT don't be fooled into thinking all 0870 are just because this on is! Be careful after Sep 28th.

Bad news indeed - a lot less calling of my relatives abroad from now on

I have one O2 contract which I will be cancelling but at upgrade time last April I chose a line rental reduction rather than an expensive handset

I guess it is also now too late to take a CPW O2 contract and go for the free cancellation - should have gone for it with a N95 or P1 but I bottled it as there had been so many rumours of this that had never materialised

Last week I upgraded with cpw o2, they used 0870 and 0840 number as selling point.

Or because of change of T&C we can cancel?

So what do we know?

O2 are going to start charging for 0870 etc numbers. Does this affect CPW customers? I was told that they would be included for at least 12 months so I have already contacted Charles Dunstone's office about this. Not really worth cancelling as on a free contract but might cancel anyway if I can time it right to get up to date with my cashback. Then I can take out another contract with the CPW group and get another free phone!
