E.ON price hike!

Having been an Eon customer for a number of years (probably around 10) the price increase was the nail in the coffin for me after several incidences of poor communication from Eon regarding other matters over the last few years.

Ovo is an excellent company with a monthly online billing system that is second to none. Two things to bear in mind:
1. You can't tariff hop if prices fall without paying a £60 termination fee (dual fuel) but you can switch away for free.
2. If you want 100% accurate billing then when your online account is set up select 'Statements on Demand'. You can then get a bill every 14 days!
I have switched away from Ovo for the moment because of Point 1. I may be back in 3 months if their prices continue to fall. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
V17 looks good. I'll probably switch to it, although it's annoying that I have over 5 weeks on my even cheaper V15 left, particularly as we are finally experiencing a spell of cold weather! But once the reward points are taken into account, V17 is the cheapest on the current market for me, so I'd rather stay with E.ON than have the hassle of moving to an unknown supplier with poor service rating.
They aren't saying how long this will be available, but I signed up to V15 around the same time last year, and this was available for a period of two weeks: 27th January 2015 to 10th February 2015. See here:
https://www.eonenergy.com/for-your-home/products-and-services/Tariff-terms-and-conditions/EON-Energy-Fixed-1-Year-V15
Perhaps that offers a clue people might find useful, although obviously there are no guarantees. I think I'll switch once I receive the e-mail from E.ON officially telling me about it.For me (electricity only, E7, southern region), it comes up right near the top on Uswitch, £15/year more expensive than iSupply, who have poor reviews. So the 1500 reward points make it equal. Of course, I don't just rely on Uswitch, I have checked the unit costs and standing charge, and calculated what my actual usage would have cost on this tariff, using the spreadsheet of regular meter readings I have. (I wish suppliers and comparison sites would make the raw unit costs more visible, instead of hiding them away and presenting people with personalised "quotations"...)
I have switched supplier numerous times, without any major problems. (I switched from EDF last year.) However, it's still easier just to log on to the E.ON website and choose a new tariff, rather than spend time on the admin of moving supplier.OK, I just switched to V17 using my E.ON online account. It lets you choose the start date for the new tariff, which can be anything up to 52 days ahead, and defaulted to the end date of my current tariff at the end of next month. Excellent!
So my advice for anyone who has a cheaper tariff that ends in the next couple of months, is to "switch" now and choose the appropriate starting date, before they withdraw V17 from sale. There is no exit fee, so if a better deal comes up in a few months, you can always switch again.
Hi jrawle
Glad you're okay with the new tariff. We, too, haven't been advised of an end date for this offer yet. I'll update this thread as soon as I know what this is.
Also pleased you found the option to forward switch useful. This will make sure you stay on version 15 prices right up to the end. Sorry, though, you struggled to see the unit prices when you moved tariff online. During the switch, they're available by choosing 'Review' and then 'Tariff Information Label.' We'll send a letter confirming the details too.
Have you signed up to 'Price Alerts?' If you have, we'll email you to let you know about any future versions of this tariff. It's good you've gone for E.ON Rewards. These are free and can be exchanged for either Tesco Clubcard points or High Street Shopping Vouchers.
Hope this is of interest jrawle. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Sign up for it anyway. You'll stay on the v15 rates until its scheduled end. Just call E.On to confirm it - their customer service does on the whole appear to know what they are talking about.v17 is not the most competitive, but I've just switched an existing E.On customer onto it, mainly because she's disabled, her meters are in a difficult to access cupboard outside (even meter readers don't always find it), and E.On have already fitted smart meters. On her usage, it will cost about £14 a month more than switching to one of the more reputable competing suppliers, but it keeps life simple.
They did confirm the new contract will start when her existing fix (v15) ends next month.
Hi victor
Glad you've been able to use the forward switching facility I was talking to jrawle about (post 104). It's a good way of making sure you stay on the better prices for as long as possible. As I also mentioned, if your friend signs up for 'Price Alerts,' we can make sure she's told of any newer versions of her tariff.
Hope this is of interest victor.

For us, a family of four, the new tariff is £235 MORE with the EoN V17 per annum than the lowest priced and best rated for feedback Company and for my Mum it's £118. Sadly I can't stay with EoN when the figures look like that. And I would have liked to - EoN would always be my supplier of choice if their price is remotely competitive. But it's still not.sunflowerseeds wrote: »I had to scroll down three pages on MSE CEC to get to the E.oN v17 tariff so I am not sure where you are getting your information from.]
I can't find any details about the V17 but I managed to get a quote (based on my ACTUAL useage over the past year) via the EoN website as I am a current customer. I'm not sure how publicly announced the new rates are on comparison websites. For example CEC didn't show any prices for V17 when the EoN website started quoting yesterday.
Unfortunately I didn't take a note of the unit prices (only the overall cost per annum) so I can't share those with you guys on here - sorry. I now can't see them anymore as I've initiated a switch to a much cheaper supplier.
Hi sunflowerseeds
Sorry to lose you but fully understand the need to go for competitive tariffs. I'll feed this and similar comments on this thread back to those who need to know.
Our website/Call Centres were the first places updated with details of the tariff. We did, though have technical difficulties with the website first thing Tuesday morning but all okay now. The comparison sites should also have the details by now too. I've had a look on the CEC and they're on there.
Sorry again to lose you sunflowerseeds.

Taking everything into consideration, I've decided to stay with them as they have been so easy to deal with over the last 3 years.
Thanks jrawle, until you posted I didn't realise you could switch so far in advance.
Hi beardiedog
You're right, it's a fair way down. Glad the forward switching option has been useful for you too. As above, it's a good way to make sure you stay on the better prices for as long as possible without missing out on the new tariff. I don't know when this offer will be pulled but will update this thread as soon as I do.
Don't know if I've already mentioned this to you but, if you register for 'Price Alerts,' we'll let you know if any newer versions of the tariff are released.
Sorry if I'm repeating myself beardiedog and glad you're staying with us.

Katiehound wrote: »Figures can't be the same for the whole country!
Daily standing charges the same but units are different:
electricity: 11.372p per kwh
gas: 3.408p per kwh
I am going to have to multiply every thing (with a calculator! ) to see exactly which is the best deal. Remembering to factor in the discounts!
Hi Katiehound
As victor says, electricity and gas prices are different depending on the region. For a fairly accurate quote, I'd do as victor suggests and pop your usage in kWh on to the independent comparison sites. These also factor in discounts and VAT although they don't include our Reward Points scheme if this is of any interest.
If you've been with us for longer than a year and have registered with our website, you can see the usage by logging in with the username and password. Choose 'MiData' from the left hand menu. On the next page, select 'View' for instant information or 'Request email' and we'll send it to the registered email address. Alternatively, details of the usage will be on your bills.
Hope this is useful Katiehound. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

I switched when EON frightened me away with the 25% increase when V15 runs out.
If I'd been offered V17 at that time, I'd likely have just taken the 5% electricity and 9% gas increase on the chin, and turned the thermostat down again.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Sorry we failed to communicate as we should jackieblack and that our new tariff isn't of interest. Thought I'd pop on to let you know, you'll be within the Price Protection window (open from the date on the renewal notice until 20 working days after version 15 ends). Provided we're told, we'll keep you on the lower prices whilst you change supplier (usually takes about two and a half weeks). Exit fees don't apply whilst the window is open either.
Don't know if this applies but, if you joined our Rewards scheme, don't forget to cash in any points you might've built up.
Sorry again we let you down jackieblack.

Sorry to lose you facade.
