E.ON price hike!

The standing charge and unit rates vary widely across the market and I have no idea whether my future usage will bear any relation to my current usage, so even the savings prediction is a gamble. If my usage increases then I'm better off, if it decreases then I'm worse off. I used the figures that E.ON calculated when doing their tariff comparison, I have no idea if they are correct.
I fancied trying British Gas again as last time I found their billing to be much less confusing as they billed me every month, rather than E.ON taking a payment every month but only billing me every quarter or Npower never billing me until I left. I would have stayed with British Gas if their prices were competitive or if they gave me more cashback.
Hi phillw
I know what you mean about being a bit of a gamble. It can be somewhat of a guess when it comes down to future usage. Not sure if I've mentioned this to you before but there's a tool on our website to give you more control over payments so adjustments can be made to take into consideration changing circumstances. This is the Direct Debit Manager.
With this, provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before confirming the new amount, we'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit by the time of the annual review if payments are changed but usage doesn't alter as expected.
If you want monthly bills, there's another online tool that'll do this for you. It's called Real Time Billing. Each time you pop in meter readings you'll have the option of seeing what balance would result or actually creating your own bill. If you go for 'request a bill,' one will be raised within 24 hours. The only time you won't have this option is when the next scheduled bill is due in what we call the 'billing window' (for quarterly billed customers, this is open 14 days either side of the next bill date). The first set of readings entered during this window automatically lead to a bill.
To use both the Direct Debit Manager and Real Time Billing you need to have registered the account with our website.
Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know phillw but hope it's of some interest.

I've reduced my monthly DD amount using the on-line account Direct Debit Manager as I am heavily over paying and in credit but how quickly does the new rate apply?
A few weeks after resetting it lower I still got billed at the old higher DD monthly rate on my payment date.0 -
Hi Patr100
A change of payments through our online Direct Debit Manager will be logged immediately but might not affect the next payment. It depends when it's due. It takes up to 14 days for the change to be logged with your bank. If the change you did was too late for the next payment, we'll collect the previous amount. The next payment will then be at the revised amount.
If all went through okay, you'll have received a letter or email to let you know.
Hope this explains Patr100. Let me know if you're unsure as happy to help further.
