The so-called 'basic' cartridges supplied with Canon cartridges are in no way 'starter' cartridges - they can print around 180 pages.
[Starter cartridges print around 20 pages].
What people are saying is that canons "basic" cartridges are the equivalent to the "starter" cartridges in that they are not full cartridges, they're just designed to get you started.
Its like getting the "basic" broadband package off different suppliers. It may be their bottom package, but it doesn''t mean that every basic package from every supplier will offer the same speed/limits.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

I bought a cheap HP printer a couple of weeks ago and the "starter" cartridges are still going strong after at least 40 pages of full colour printing.0 -
But were they called starter or basic cartridges?
What did the box hint at?
What did the cashier tell you about all the other printers on the shelf?
Useless post without that info....0 -

Perhaps we could call them basic starter cartridges, but I'm not sure whether that helps.0 -

Canon do 2 types of cartridges. The basic ones print around 180 pages; but their XL cartridges print much more. All Canon printers are said to come with the basic cartridges; replacements are available in basic or XL sizes.
'Starter' cartridges have a small amount of ink to get you going and will only print around 20 pages.0
