Printer cartridge fraud

As I said before, the Canon box indicated that it had full basic cartridges but the staff told me that it 'starter' cartridges just like the Epson. This swayed my decision to buy either and I went for the Epson.
I have written to Canon to enquire about this and this is their reply:
"In reference to your enquiry regarding your MG2450, we can confirm that this printer comes with a set of FINE cartridges (regular ones)."
Now I would say that I was given misleading information leading me to discard the Canon from purchase. I believe I have cause for complaint against Staples, though I do not have any legal rights.
Complaint about what ?
You made the decision to go for the other printer so only got yourself to blame.0 -
you done yourself a favor by buying the epson anyway, get some compatibles on ebay, much cheaper then buying cannon compatibles or genuine epson cartridges.0

the starter cartridges may have the same amount of ink as the basic cartridge, possible labelled to prevent resale of them when people return printers as faulty and keep them.
The issue with the first install is that there are the tubes and printheads to load with ink so a fair proportion will be used for that alone.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I made an "emergency" purchase of a printer at a 24hr Asda a couple of weeks ago (had to print documents for court the following day).
Knowing that they came with "starter" cartridges I also bought a full set of ordinary cartridges (printer was £37, ink £23!)
The instructions clearly said, you must use these cartridges first, do not save them, they will not work later.
Nothing on the box.0 -
The fact is that printers are sold at a loss and the companies make money on the cartridges. They hate the fact that you can buy cheap re-manufactured alternatives. If you can afford a bit more, get a laser printer. They are much cheaper to run and there are lots of OEM toner manufacturers about.Je suis sabot...0

It's not fraud, it's buyer incompetence.
I agree 100%, where is the false representation?0 -
What the member of staff was partly a lie in that he said that both Canon and the Epson contain starter cartridges which is not the case; Canon has been confirmed to contain full basic cartridges capable of printing about 180 pages.
Had I known that or I had been not lied to I would have gone for the Canon; I would have got around 180 pages printed before having to buy replacements.
FYI starter cartridges are normal size cartridges but with their tank limited to a small volume. They will print around 20 pages and cease. There is no point refilling them as they will only take a small amount of ink; print 20 pages and then run out again. The whole point of them doing this is to stop customers buying a cheap printer and then refilling cartridges (not buying originals).0 -

Why omit this from your original post.
You made absolutely no mention of this. You said you compared both boxes, you yourself said the boxes 'hinted' and said 'similar things'
You said you took the Epson to the till the cashier said it had starter cartridges and you didn't believe him.
Now all of a sudden you had a full blown discussion with the cashier where he lied to you about a random printer on the shelf he had not even looked at.0 -

Well you best have Staples in court over it.0
