Printer cartridge fraud

The cashier told me to buy extra cartridges as the ones contained in the box were only 'starter' cartridges and could only print 20 pages.
So I assumed the cashier was try to pull the wool over my eyes to spend more money on cartridges.
Where do I stand on this one?
You were told that the box only contained starter cartridges.
You chose to ignore the cashier.
You don't stand anywhere the problem is of your own making.0 -
Now I see that as misreprsentation - in that the box claims that basic cartridges are included which print hundreds of pages but in fact the box contains 'starter' cartridges. What if the cashier did not alert the customers?
If you had bought the Canon printer and found that the box didn't contain what was stated on the outside then you are legally entitled to return it for a full refund.
However, seeing as you didn't buy that one but bought the Epson printer which didn't state what was included and you chose to ignore the staff when they told you that only starter cartridges were included, you have no cause for complaint.
Well, I suppose that's not strictly accurate. You could complain about the purchaser choosing to ignore the sales staff when they tried to give them the relevant information.0 -
Canon printers do generally come with starter cartridges, not full capacity ones. What exactly did the box say?0
-
Maybe its me but I don't see the problem, you were at some point going to have to buy some inks as the starter ones wont print much.
May I ask how its printer cartridge fraud ?0 -
Just google for replica cartridges for that printer, and buy some on Amazon or ebay.
I have a Brother printer, and the replica cartridges are brilliant, and about £3 each. they last for ages.
Check which ones work best with your printer.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I suggest that you go immediately to your local police station to report the fraud and insist the the CEOs of both Epson and Staples (why not throw Canon into the mix too) are arrested and charged, or forget the charging, just go straight to the life sentence without parole.0

The entire printer and cartridge industry are a load of sharks anyway. I thought everyone knew this.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

I vaguely remember from working in a Currys years ago that all printers regardless of the manufacturer had starter cartridges.
Why did you think the cashier was trying to "pull the wool over your eyes"?? I guarantee they won't be getting paid commission, so if anything they were actually providing a very good service. It would have been a different complaint if they hadn't mentioned anything, and you had travelled all the way home to find out the printer was only capable of printing 20 pages, and had to travel all the way back to the store to pick up additional cartridges.0 -
The only brand to include full cartridges are HP and even they only put starter ones in their budget printers (desk jet range) and they only start to include full ones at the +£50/60 range when you get to the envy/photosmart/office jet range.
I'm pretty sure Canon don't advertise that a full cartridge comes in the box, I'll try to look later when I'm in work.
I did just look at staples website and their printer descriptions don't say that they come with any cartridges at all, I also looked at currys and it states setup cartridge included. Argos has it listed as ink cartridge included but makes no mention of what type of cartridge.0 -
Another thread with misuse of the word 'fraud'
It's not fraud, it's buyer incompetence.0
