No, I am not going to Staples to court but I am going to write to them and complain.
IMO they are supplying customers with misinformation in order to increase their sales of expensive ink cartridges.

The cashier in the store told you that the printer you were purchasing only contained starter cartridges and you would need to buy more and guess what?
The box only contained starter cartridges and you had to buy more.

    How exactly were you misinformed?

Why can't or won't you simply admit that the only problem was your refusing to believe what you were told in the store.
If you had listened then you would have bought extra cartridges and this whole affair wouldn't have existed.

How is telling you exactly what was in the box 'misinformation'?

My issue is that I was torn between the Canon and the Epson. The member staff told me that both printers contained 'starter' cartridges. I disagreed and pointed him to the Canon box which said that its basic cartridges printed around 180 pages and were included. But the staff member disagreed and said that all printers now come with 'starter' cartridges. But this has been proven to be false as confirmed by email from Canon.
So my complaint is that the staff member prevented me from buying the Canon through misinformation; I would have been better off had I bought the Canon.
The staff member telling me that all printers come with 'starter' cartridges was a lie.
    Does that make it clear?

This is a totally different story to your original one, which suggests you changed it when you didn't get the answers you wanted.

So why did you go for the Epson then if you were "lied" to and thus assumed both printers came with starter cartridges?

In the end you went with the Epson of your own free will, the product is fit for purpose, you cannot claim mis-selling or mis-representation for a product you didn't buy and even then you would have to prove the sales person intentionally mis-represented the other product.

    Was it a lie?

Or did the staff member truly believe that what he told you was correct?

Akkers, have you ever made a mistake?

I spy an impending "mistake". Refilling the ink cartridges, screwing up the printer and voiding his SOGA and warranty rights.
