Ok, so Canon call their starter cartridges 'basic'.

Basic cartridges to me is just "starter cartridges".

It is just different wording to throw people with.


Now be realistic here and ask yourself would a £25- £40.00 printer be supplied with two full cartridges at around £30.00 -£50.00 a pop ? - No I thought not so it is all chatter and spill by the Companies in question as printers are made and sold at near on costs with profit made on inks.


I'd give up the battle as the only thing you will do is waste time and effort with Companies saying let's appease this person with some replies and nothing will change.


It really is time to move on now.

If you go onto the Canon website and do some checks on their various models of printers it would appear that it depends on the model as to which cartridges come with it.

Canon state that some come with Fine cartridges which print up to 180 pages and others with Setup cartridges, so unless you quoted the exact model to the cashier how were they to know which cartridges came with it, the cashier was not deliberately telling lies as some Canon printers do come with Setup/starter cartridges.

The so-called 'basic' cartridges supplied with Canon cartridges are in no way 'starter' cartridges - they can print around 180 pages.

Starter EPSON cartridges print 20.

Basic CANON cartridges print 180 according to you.

I can't find a starter canon nor a basic Epson. Considering for £13 you can get a black canon cartridge that prints 3425 pages, I reckon the 180 one IS the starter cartridge.
