Nope I upgraged to the new version of vyke lite by going to the website, logging in and then following the link it sent in the text. It looks like a nice new interface but it just refuses to send any texts. Worst of all it seems to open my connection and be sending data, becasue i am getting charged to my O2 account. I've tried Vyke pro too but it does the same thing - it says online at the top but refuses to send any texts! Ive tried using the international mobile number format but still nada
Anybody on the O2 network having problems sending data/text or failing to register the Vyke java client on your handset need to be aware that the new version of Vyke requires full internet access on your mobile as opposed to WAP internet (which previously worked fine). You need to make sure that you have the o2 "MobileWeb" data connection installed and set as the default rather than "O2 WAP GPRS".
You also need to install Vyke Lite from this NEW link: http://mobile.vykelite.com/
The old link will download a version of Vyke but it does not work!
Hope this helps.0 -
nope still no joys - downloaded the version from that link (it was the one I already had anyway) and changed my data connection settings to the o2 mobile web but still says it can't find a connection even though its still sending something because I am getting charged! Before this whole "depreciated" thing I was using the O2 WAP GPRS but it was definately connecting either on GPRS or EDGE and not the WAP, as I was getting charged based on data sent/received rather than 10p a minute (which would have made vyke pointless!). Any other suggestions anyone?

When I said WAP, I did mean WAP GPRS (/EDGE) rather than WAP GSM (Dial-up)! But, my point was that even within the GPRS settings there are 2 different types; one that offers WAP GPRS and the other has full html internet access which O2 call "Mobile Web" and this is the one that needs to be selected. If you select WAP GPRS then your mobile will be able to connect to the internet, however, any data that the Vyke client sends will not reach the correct destination - it will just get lost!0 -
Ah OK I see. Sorry, my understanding of mobile web protocols is rather limited! I did try using the O2 mobile web but that didnt work either. It does say in the details of "mobile web" that it is for pay monthly customers, so maybe the full service isn't offered on P&G?
I have, however, now received a reply from Vyke which went as follows:
Date: 26/Feb/08 01:33 AM
We appreciate for your supports to Vyke!
Kindly please download again the mobile application form http://mobile.vykelite.com or http://mobile.vykepro.com by using your mobile browser.
Please ensure that your mobile is activated with WAP and Internet GPRS or WIFI and supported by JAVA.
Thank you and have a nice day.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance. Kind Regards,
Vyke Support Team
Obviously a standard reply, since in my email to them I specifically stated that I had already done both of these things!
The old version used to work fine - why did they have to start fiddling!0 -

I think you could be correct here. I do remember that O2 Pay&Go customers had restricted internet access in the past (don't know if it has changed since).0 -

I have a theory: I've only put money into my vyke account once (£10) and found that even after several month's use it had only used around £3 by the time the new version came. I text quite a lot, so I was pleasantly surprised to see I had been undercharged - I know I'm not the only one who hasn't been charged full.
Anyway I got the new version and I've found that my balance is dropping much quicker - I'd assume at the proper 1p/text rate. My theory is that they were dissatisfied with the fault in the previous version, went about to fix that, and made a new version which looked a little nicer too (but only as a cover for the real reason). Then to make sure people would get the new version they enforced getting it with all this "depreciated" message.
Just a theory - could be a load of ballsHaikus are easy

You're probably right - although I was certainly getting charged for all my usage! Think I might give e-mailing them another bash and if I still don't have any success then I'll give O2 an email asking if there is some way round the problem!

I doubt O2 would be too happy to help if you mention Vyke!Haikus are easy

Got my email from them:Kindly be inform that Vyek Lite and Vyke Mobile Pro will be different mobile application.
Our system number will appear as the sender ID while sending the SMS through Vyke Lite. This is to prevent the fault use where the user will able to modify the callback from the application itself.
And I stated quite clearly in my message to them that my phone wasn't compatible with Vyke Pro argh!!
Then the news I dreaded to hear: its deliberate that the number is weird - even though their FAQ still clearly states that recipients of texts 'will be able to reply easily because the caller ID is changed to match the sender' or something like that
And I wasn't even aware of this brilliantly described fault - "where the user will able to modify the callback from the application itself."
Whatever it was, I wish I had exploited it - I'm not a happy customer.
I shall send Vyke those exact sentiments, even though they'll just ignore meHaikus are easy
