Using WAP/Internet to send SMS/Text messages from your mobile on O2 incurs a minimum charge of 10p just for connecting to wap.o2.co.uk on pay as you go, which renders it pointless as, coincidently, text messages cost 10p on O2.
How can you get around this? Can you use any other WAP settings to get free or cheap texts?0 -

Are you using dial up wap charged at 10p per minute or are you using GPRS wap ?
If you want free texts on O2 PAYG just top up at least £10 and you will get at least 300 free texts and 1MB free GPRS WAP for 30 days as long as you are on one of the online tariffs that is standard on O2 PAYG sim cards presently available.0 -

Yes -- I am using GRPS wap, but as soon as you connect, you are instantly charged 10p, which renders using the internet to send texts as pointless.
I have a genie SIM which, as you say, does give me 300 free texts when I top up £10 or more. However, this article states about using your internet to send cheap texts, but mentions nothing about O2 charging a minimum fee of 10p just to connect to their WAP service. Maybe this is different for other providers?
Trick: TEXT ANYTIME vs TALK ANYTIME
One trick I thought might work is instead of using the TEXT ANYTIME bolt-on, get the TALK ANYTIME bolt on... you ask why? Well, with TALK ANYTIME, and you top up £10 or more, you get a 1 MB WAP allowance. With this you can send cheap texts over the internet without incurring the 10p minimum fee. Not only will you get cheap texts, but you also get at least 50 free minutes, which you wouldn't get with the TEXT ANYTIME bolt-on.0 -
It looks like on O2 PAYG you can use GPRS WAP but not GPRS Internet. The Vyke website suggests that you need to be able to connect to the internet while SMSBug looks like it works with WAP, which could be why O2 PAYG users are able to use SMSBug and not Vyke.
It may be that O2 is not specifically blocking Vyke, just providing a poorer service to PAYG customers.:rolleyes:0 -

hey is anyone else having vyke problems starting yesterday?
i'm on vyke lite and have been receiving messages saying 'Your version of Vyke has been depreciated'
I'm desperately trying to find my login details!!Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

I'm having the same problem with the "depreciated" message! Ive downloaded the new version of vyke lite from http://mobile.vykelite.com to my phone but it keeps saying it cant find an internet connection. Ive' tried re-sending all my gprs settings but to no avail. It was all working fine until yesterday! I miss my 2p texts
If anyone can find a solution to this I would be very grateful! I'm on a Nokia 6300 on O2 P&G

Okay I may be the only one on Vyke Lite here, but in case I'm not - I found my login details and got the new version. It looks nice and is simpler to use, but I'm finding the recipient of my texts no longer sees my number as the sender, but +4477777 instead. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?Haikus are easy

Did you get the download link sent recently, or way before? If you just used the one from the original download, you might need to logon to the website and get the link sent again. Also when you put in your number it needs to start with +44, then the rest of your number - but importantly this should not include the first 0 of your numberHaikus are easy
