  • I have spent the last few days loading Vyke mobil pro on my phone and my sons, easy but both phones suddenley have no network coverage when it comes to sending a text or making a call just the bubbles. I contacted vyke support they say recheck settings, the settings where fine. Then phoned O2 and asked them agent said that vyke was most likley blocked. Have now emailed o2 for a further explanation.
Is it possible to compile a list of providers who allow vyke to work then we can all swop? or a list of providers who block vyke then we know what we are not getting. john

NEW VERSION OF VYKE PRO RELEASED

This may solve some problems that some people are having getting Vyke to work on their phones. I have installed it but only tested the SMS application which works! :T on my Orange pay monthly Nokia 6233.

Here is an excerpt from the Vyke site.

Note: As of September 14th Vyke Pro Beta has been upgraded to a new version which has improved services for users on certain mobile networks. All Vyke Pro Beta users must upgrade to the new version prior to October 1st 2007 in order to continue using the service.

  • After speaking on the phone to O2 I emailed for further information.
O2 email is below. They say they dont support this service ( but surely all they have to do is allow Vyke to access a network? does that mean they actively block Vyke?)
I did down load the new version of Vyke pro, which works fine on the phone but can not access a network just bubbles for five mins. Then it says cannot access network. Can O2 block access to the network like this?

    email from O2
    Hello John,

Thank you for contacting us about running the Vyke software on your phone.

I'm sorry you've not been able to use this software on your phone.

I've spoken to our technical support team and they've advised me that we don't support this service. We provide our customers with our own services and products that are supported by every phone. Because of this we can't support third party companies, services as well.

I've sent you two separate emails with your settings in. Please go through the steps in the email and once you've completed them all turn your phone off and on to store your settings.

If you have any issues connecting to O2 Active or using our services, please reply to my email and I'll be happy to help you further.

If you've any further questions, please visit our online Help Centre at:

For the life of me I can't get Vyke Pro to install on my D600.

the lite version works fine and I really like the idea of the (cheap calls via) callback feature that will be a boon when abroad but it's going to be a real pain having to write down the number I want to text every time I want to send one.

Anyone else had this sort of problem? The site says it should work with newer phones. :(
I have had the same problem i use the d500

    I have just read this from the Vyke site as well;
"For more information on Vyke Mobile services, please see the Vyke Mobile FAQ Page.

    How it works / Requirements:
Your mobile operator must support mobile internet (such as GPRS, UMTS, 3g, etc).
    Your phone must support Java.
To use Vyke Mobile Pro, your phone must support WMA.
Your phone must be configured for using mobile data connection.
To access your phones address book your phone must support PIM.
Some phones might require special configuration to have a Java program work with mobile Internet, please refer to your phone's user manual.
    "

Does your phone meet the requirements?

  • If you text a non Vyke user using Vyke Pro/Lite do you receive the reply via Vyke meaning you have to connect to wap to get the message. Replies are to your number so shouldn't they be received in the normal way. Therefore there would be no need to ping Vyke so saving on data charges.

    Thanks

No, because they are sending it via their normal service provider. You only need to login if someone with a vyke acc is send you a message free of charge via Vyke. Vyke to Vyke txt messages are free.

    Hope this helps.

I don't strictly agree with that.. in my handset, I can read the sms they sent without Vyke connecting. I do this by not giving vyke permission to access the internet without prompting. When I receive an SMS from another Vyke user, Vyke loads and when it prompts me to connect, i select "no".

My girlfriend's phone doesn't even boot vyke, and the text message is delivered straight to her ordinary inbox.

This suggests that Vyke sends all the information within the SMS. The only time you would need to connect is if the message is longer than a standard message.

So if you can set your handset to prompt before connecting, you should be able to read the sms you received without using data.

I think you misunderstood me, I did not explain very well, I agree with you you do not have to connect to recieve a SMS only a Vyke to Vyke SMS. Otherwise just the normal SMS network is used to recieve. :p
