Have you had your credits yet Swagman?

It took 2 emails - the one to support@smsbug.com was not answered, but the one to info@smsbug.com was and the credit record updated, with apologies.

It seems that the system gets lost if your credits display as a minus number, so if this ever happens you have to tell smsbug to have it corrected before trying to buy more credits.

Any way to get it to work on my O2 contract or PAYG using SE W800i?
• I have two o2 contracts.

I am using a sim free Nokia 6021 on a talk plan with data enabled. The phone ws bought as an emergency replacement whilst overseas. I can not use pro on this phone. Have not had the time to try lite yet.

Also have an XDA mini s, which is on a data only tariff. I use it for GPRS for traffic alerts from tom tom, and then remove the sim and insert in to a data card for urgent web access. The XDA allows perfect usage of the pro version. Easy to use and set up. Also allows me access my contact list.

Am upgrading to a Nokia N95 mid september and I hope that with a data enabled 3g card, that I will not be blocked from using the Vyke service.

Anyone used vyke with an N95 yet?

No, but been using it brilliantly for some months on a 9500 using WiFi when in range or O2 GPRS when not, so with the N95 I imagine you too can look forward to that
• I found that with my Tesco SIMS I could download Vyke Lite (and smsBug) but could not then send messages what ever I tried. I then inserted my Orange PAYG SIMS in the same phone and had no problems (although my credit reduced by 2p for one sms message). This leads me to believe that Tesco block this type of usage. Hope this helps :-)

Just a warning/query.

I am using a Sony Ericsson K510 on Vodafone PAYG. I downloaded and installed Vyke Pro late last night. I just installed and set up the software, but haven't tried sending any texts. I checked my balance before I went to bed and when I checked it again this afternoon it had gone down by £2.15!!!

That's over a month's typical credit use in just over twelve hours; not much moneysaving so far. Either I've got something set up wrong or the cost of pinging the Internet is prohibitively expensive for this kind of use on Vodafone PAYG.

So how much do they charge for data on Voda PAYG then?

• Well accoridng to the voda website its up to £1 for 15MB in one day , and then £2 for every further MB. Surely more than 15MB cannot have been used?

Could the download have been started just before midnight?

For the people who are having problems with access (especially if the phone has been used on more than one network) -

There are more than one lot of internet settings in some phone menus

For example, my Nokia 6070 has default and preferred settings to use, and these are not the same thing (don't ask me why!). This might explain why some people can download the software, but not then send using it.

If you only intend to use the phone on one network, then it might be worth deleting them all, then downloading new ones, or otherwise

for instance, Nokia 6070 has

Web > Configuration Settings > Default
Web > Configuration Settings > Account
Settings > Connectivity > Packet Data > Packet data settings
Settings > Configuration > Default configuration settings
Settings > Configuration > Activate default in all configurations
Settings > Configuration > Preferred access point

- which can quite easily show different networks, like mine shows Virgin and Orange in different places at the moment

I had quite a lot of difficulty with this, and Nokia were absolutely no use at all, including falsely accusing me of being in breach of an Orange contract as I'd once unlocked a totally different phone on O2, eventually they insisted that they did not support third party applications, that it was a wrong version of Java, that the software suppliers should read the guidance info on the Nokia website, hung up when I said it worked on a SonyEricsson phone, falsified a log of what I'd tried to ask, and finally refused to discuss it further. Then replied to my emails about a month too late

In fact, it was about the "preferred access point", which they hadn't even mentioned, and was still left on Orange whereas I'd switched the other settings to O2. The application then tried to use the preferred, not default settings and thus was trying to send via the wrong network for the SIM. Maybe other applications do try to use default; I have no idea.

Sorry about the length of this, and don't ask me why Nokia made it much harder to reconfigure this than say a 3510i, or why some of their tech support staff became quite abusive and obstructive when they couldn't solve this.

This might apply to other brand phones; it may not. Some of the apparent blocks above may be for other reasons, but I note that some have swapped network in the phone, so maybe this will give a useful hint for some ...

If you can manage to find all the parts of the menu and alter them, well done, but otherwise, if your eyes have glazed over by now, maybe just delete all and reload only one as I said before, then the default and preferred settings will all be automatically what you want
