When I signed up to BT at the start of this year, I got BT Sports shoehorned in with my broadband only deal. I could not find a way of not having BT Sport, but as it was "free" I had no real problem with it.
I just got a email from BT saying that they are adding a new channel called "BT Sport Europe" to the sport package, and by not downgrading manually, I will be charged an extra £5 a month starting August 2015. If you have BT TV, it is free.
It makes sense to me why BT forced the sport channels on customers now.
Yet it doesn't make sense to me as I don't see how anyone would be happy with the tactic, whether they discover the additional charge before or after August 1st.0 -
Its not a new channel added to your existing BT Sport 1 &2 .Most of the existing content will no longer be on the new free BT 1 channel
Its a new channel that requires £5 a month or free via new BT TV Contract .0 -
Got the e-mail today. As its a pickle in that I neither want to extend my contract nor pay an excess of £5 a Month for it. The way I see it is it is a breach of the contract I signed up to. Which makes this contract both null and void, which entitles me to cancel this contract forthwith.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Just to add to this - having spent 28 minutes on the phone to BT - we have opted for the downgrade to BT SportLite at no charge and with no extension to our existing contract. The downgrade doesn't bother us, we only took the sport option because it was a freebie. If we weren't going away and had more time to resolve this, we'd probably have opted to use clause 57 of the T&C:If you are still in a minimum contract term for that service and you reasonably consider that you would be materially disadvantaged by the change, then you will have 30 days from the day you receive our written notification to call and tell us you want to end your contract for that service without paying a charge for ending your contract early.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

<<However, BT says those with BT broadband and BT TV who currently get BT Sport 'free' can't cancel their contracts penalty-free because their prices won't change – BT TV customers will be entitled to 'free' BT Sports from 1 August.>>
BT told me today that BT TV customers will have to re contract from 1st August for 18 months or pay £5 per month .By the way that re-contract is on a BT TV contract that expires June 2016 .
Problem is so many untrue/ misinformed statements are being made .0 -
im trying to downgrade online and its very confusing, chose downgrade option, i have ticked not to renew contract then next page gives me 2 options to choose a package , both are chargeable from what i can make out and does not mention bt lite anywhere

Best to call on these things usually, might as well work a lower price whilst your at it by doing some comparisons0

So if you cancel your contract due to this rise, what happens if you've paid line rental upfront?Next year we'll be millionaires!0
