BT Sport fiver a month

Contacted BT as I should not have to pay the £5 as I'm a BT TV customer. They say that's correct, but to take advantage of this I have to re-contract for 12 months, thus extending my contract with them. I'm sure they've had their lawyers on this but I'm surprised they can get away with this. I'm being asked (forced) to extend my contract in order to avoid paying something I shouldn't be paying anyway!0

I've put a few more questions to BT about the BT Sport change and will update the story once I hear back.
dc scotland, BT told me that broadband customers with the current 'free' BT Sport would be automatically opted in to the £5/month new full BT Sport Pack if it does not hear back from customers within 30 days. But I've asked it about your scenario - whereby you're being downgraded to Lite because you've not watched BT Sport recently.
If anyone has any other questions, feel free to post here and I'll get in touch with BT. Many thanks, MSE Paloma
Thank you Paloma.
Since posting a copy of my BT email in this thread earlier today, I have been checking my online BT account to see if there are any further updates, or options to cancel BT Sport Lite, etc.
I see that this info has now been added to my account details and appears to be further confirmation that I have been automatically downgraded to the free option, rather than opted in to a paid service that I have no wish for:As it stands
you have BT Sport Lite
Which means you'll MISS OUT on all this:
X UEFA Champions League
X UEFA Europa League
X The FA Cup & MotoGPTM
X European Rugby Champions Cup
X Ultimate Fighting Championship
BT Sport Lite FREE
There's nothing else you need to do0 -
How are people downgrading online, when i try its just seems to be sneakily adding things on !0

Martin clearly says here that I can cancel my BT Infinity even though I am in contract for 6 months because of this change to BTSport.

Q. I'm in contract on my BT broadband. Does the hike mean I can cancel the broadband penalty-free?
A. Yes, if you contact BT within 30 days of receiving the price change notification, you can avoid paying a charge for ending the contract early.
BT says that I cannot.

Anyone know if the free BT Sport with a BT Mobile contract is to be similarly affected?0

I am contracted to 2 Sep 2015 for Broadband, with free sport..
I received the email stating that I would be upgraded and charged £5 unless I change to lite.
Martin's website states this is grounds to cancel the contract.
I have just spent 30+ minutes arguing the point and been refused a cancellation pointblank without £60+ charges. A manger will call me back in 7 days time!
Unless anyone there has a contact within BT to confirm this point I am going to remain an unhappy bunny.
I want to take up the Sky offer, and I've even got one of the voucher numbers, but I need to cut BT clear first. Is Ofcom a practical approach?
Paloma, or anyone, any options available here to expedite this please?0 -
I believe the currently recommended approach is to raise a formal complaint (if you use MSE's Resolver service, it's easy!). Say that the increased charge will put you at a material disadvantage. And finish with a warning that you will refer to the ombudsman if you are not satisified. This latter action would cost BT over £500 regardless of the outcome, so you may get offered the solution you seek (contract cancellation) before it gets to that stage.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
