BT Sport fiver a month

Hi all,
I've put a few more questions to BT about the BT Sport change and will update the story once I hear back.
dc scotland, BT told me that broadband customers with the current 'free' BT Sport would be automatically opted in to the £5/month new full BT Sport Pack if it does not hear back from customers within 30 days. But I've asked it about your scenario - whereby you're being downgraded to Lite because you've not watched BT Sport recently.
If anyone has any other questions, feel free to post here and I'll get in touch with BT. Many thanks, MSE Paloma0 -
I have a colleague on the phone to BT who are refusing to let him downgrade without signing a new contract! But I managed to do this online (he doesn't have the option for some reason).
BT are a joke. He finally go through to 2 managers above the person on the phone who actually sorted it.0 -
PLEASE READ ... THIS IS YOUR WAY OUT !!!
OK So as a BT broadband customer i have always had BT sport as a free service from BT for having BT Broadband . With that i get BT Sports 1 and BT sports 2 and ESPN .
My BT sport is being delivered via SKY box.
BT has informed me today that i will be getting charged £5 from August 2015.
This is different to what i signed up to their BT broadband for. I signed up for a fixed fee broadband service and to get BT sports 1 2 and ESPN with my BT broadband albeit for free (£13.50 discounted). Now they want to charge me £5 extra that represents an increase of over 25% for the same package. So in actual fact they have changed the discount i am getting and that represents an increase of over 10% which i believe means i can CANCEL my contract for services and move it else where.
BT get out is that they are still offering me BT LITE which is only 1 Sports channel. That is different to what i have signed up for and less than what made me choose BT in the first instance.
I believe i should have the right to move ALL of my services away from BT and not be held to their contract term which has 6 months remaining .
BT disagrees. However i KNOW i am going to WIN on this and I'm writing here for the first time to tell people how to get out of there contract.
You do it by making an official complaint. This should be done in writing and sent via Martyns resolver service on this site or by official phone call or better still in writing sent RECORDED delivery. BT at some point will have to make you a final offer or final statement of their position . If they won't take your complaint over the phone put it in writing they then have to respond. That is the rules and it will go to the right team who will take your complaint seriously not some call centre whose job it is to minimize the damage and fall out so they can hit their monthly customer targets.
You must make it clear to them in your letter (USE martins excellent resolver service) That you intend to push this matter ALL the way to the OMBUDSMAN service. Let them know that you know if it goes to the OMBUDSMAN service they will have to pay £550 for you referring it there.
So let me explain further. To cancel my contract they want me to pay £132. I say NO.. i want to cancel without penalty because you have changed the deal.
My bill shows the BT sports channel cost of £13.50 discounted to £0. So by changing that discount mid contract and making it now £ only £8.50 discount i am paying more and that is a rise in cost of over 10% Ie. £26 per month broadband and sports is now £31 per month is actually 19% increase. Any increase over 10% the regulatory rules say i have the RIGHT to cancel and leave !
They disagree .. We can not agree on a way forward so i refer it to Ombudsman service which they are bound by. They will then have to pay £550 per every single referral to the ombudsman .
(EVERY COMPLAINT AGAINST A TELECOMS COMPANY THAT THE OMBUDSMAN RECIEVES AND ACCEPTS THE COMPANY YOU COMPLAIN AGAINST (IE BT VODAFONE WHO EVER ETC) HAS TO PAY THE OMBUDSMAN £550 EACH CASE. SO IF THERE ARE 10,000 CASES IT WILL COST THEM £5.5 MILLION and an investigation and a larger fine if they are in breach of their rules and terms set out by Ofcom and Regulator.
You let them know that you know this. (You state in your complaint you know they will have to pay £550 if it goes to the Omsbudsman service but you will be taking it there regardless if they don't let you cancel or keep your contract as it is). They will realise its in their own interest not to pay this fee as they will loose money and its easier to cancel your contract without penalty.
You get out of your contract and your free to go where ever you want. Or you will Keep BT sports and all the services until the end of your contract.
Also quote point 57 of their own terms and conditions which states the following.
Except in the circumstances detailed in paragraph 56, if we plan to change the price or the terms and conditions of a service to your material disadvantage, then we will write to you to tell you about that change so that you have at least 30 days' notice before it happens. If you are still in a minimum contract term for that service and you reasonably consider that you would be materially disadvantaged by the change, then you will have 30 days from the day you receive our written notification to call and tell us you want to end your contract for that service without paying a charge for ending your contract early. You'll have to give us up to 30 days' notice to end that service as set out in paragraph 25 above, but you won't be charged the higher price for that service during the notice period (if you have already paid the higher price we will refund the difference to you in your next or final bill). You can only end the services that are directly affected by the changes we make without paying a charge for ending your contract early and any other agreements with us will continue to apply for the services that are not affected by those changes.
I personally HATE sports so i couldn't care less about it. I just want to renegotiate my contract. As i know i can get a much better deal than I'm currently getting £40 per month for phone and fibre broadband.
Im hoping that over the next year i will save myself over £280 on this contract.
I had this same argument with Vodafone and they realised it was in their interest to settle with me and did and allowed me to cancel my contract without cost mid point. IT would of cost them more for it to go to the Ombudsman .
... ONCE BT ALLOW ME TO CANCEL I AM SIGNING UP FOR SSE PACKAGE.
£24 PER MONTH INCLUDING LINE RENTAL AND 80MB BROADBAND SAME AS INFINITY 2 ..
This will save me £280per year. BT can keep their sports channel hike . I am not a footy fan. But using SSE (south electric one of big six electricity companies deal) compared with the £5 increase and keeping my BT services will save me that amount i.e. £280 per year.
SSE deal is £12 per month line rental. and £12.50 for same as infinity 2 or super fast broadband unlimited downloads etc. Total per month £24.50
BT = £16.95 Line rental £26 per month Broadband cost and £5 BT sport.
= £47.95 per month difference of £23.45 or £281.40 per year
No brainer.
But if they do not give me what i request i am definitely taking it to the Omsbudsman we need to stop these corporates treating us their paying customers and the means of their profits like this ! We also need to say enough for them paying over the odds for the sports matches. If they make a loss this time around they will NOT be so eager to bid over the odds next time around.0 -

Stewart please read my post above and give me your thoughts on my thinking and process thank you.0 -
Just gone through 3 levels of BT Customer Service management to complain about this stealth charge of £5 per month.
My situation is I was leaving BT in June for Talk Talk but BT contacted me and offered an improved package price and the assurance that sports channel would remain free.
The people I spoke to today told me that in June they were not aware of the changes being proposed to "sports lite" being free etc.
The last guy (most senior) also said that they had been inundated with like callers to me but there was nothing he could do about it....either reduce my tv package to the free "sports lite" channnel of pay the £5 per month.
Lets all make our feelings known to BT!!!0 -
Should I have had a email about this?
I am in the final 6 months of a new 18 month BT Infinity and telephone contract and have free Sky Sports which I have had for about a year.
I do not want Sky Sports if I have to pay for it and that means I don't want BT at all.
Has everybody had the email or are they staggering it?0 -
I've just checked my bill as I was sure BT sport was charged and then credited and I was correct
BT Sport Pack £13.50
This is the cost of your BT Sport at £13.50 a month, charged in advance

Credit BT Sport Pack Discount -£13.50
22 May - 21 Jun 15
BT Sport Broadband dependent discount
For BT Broadband customers
So the added £5 is a big jump in my monthly cost, the BT sport pack I signed up for as the full monty and not some watered down version which BT lite is!
I want what I signed up for at the cost I signed up at!! the only reason I choose BT was for the sport, as when I looked round other suppliers where offering the same speeds and d/l limit at the same cost just - the sport!0 -
I'm in the same position as many others on here - just recently renewed my BT Line Rental Saver, BB, All calls etc and now find it'll be an extra £5pm from 1 August if I want to keep BT Sports Pack. Thought I'd look at BTTV as an optional replacement for Sky - non starter for me.
My router is at the only BT socket in the house - under the stairs a long way from the main TV. The BTTV box has to be ethernet connected to the router - or, they say, use a powerline extender from the router to the V+ box - except that extra channels and BT Sport may not work with a powerline extender! Connecting router to V+ ox wirelessly is not possible.
I came close to leaving BT last month, until they gave me a good deal on BB which meant I kept Moto GP, RU and some premier league matches- otherwise I'd possibly be with Plusnet or SSE! Looks like no option until next renewal - I am not amused!!0 -
Does anyone know how BT Mobile customers are affected? I only recently took out a SIM ONLY contract with them. Don't really want to be charged £5 automatically...0

I did not receive an email about this, but I have just been on BT chat and spoke to an advisor who said that the emails/letters are being rolled out. I said I wanted to cancel the sport without changing any other aspect of my contract, and he said that this was ok but I would have to give a 30 day notice.
This does not give people much time to cancel before 1st August, if they haven't received their letters yet does it?0
