As this is a merged thread, Bump -Heres a breakdown of the new packages -
BT BTSport Lite - (downgrading to BTS1 only) - free, with no new contract required.
BTS1, BTS2, ESPN and BT Sport Europe - £5 for all BT BB and app users. Free for all users on BT TV.
Virgin Media - Unkown. They are currently in negotiations for the new channel.
Sky - BT BB users who view via Sky - £5.
Sky - Direct subscribers with no BT BB - Unknown, as its not yet been announced.
If anyone isn't happy about the above changes, or feels it no longer represents value for money, they have the right to cancel without penalty.
Hope that helps (a bit).0 -
I am not a BT customer, but the other day I did explore the website for information about BT Sport.
I arrived at pages which invite people to have BT Sport for free on BT TV.
The cheapest bundle that this can be added to is described as £0 per month.
"BT TV is the best way to watch the BT Sport Pack with access to our new BT Sport Europe channel and up to 25 Premium TV channels. BT TV starts from as little as £0/mth."
!"Pick a package and add BT Sport for!FREE"
"How to!to watch
With BT TV it's FREE
BT TV is the best way to watch BT Sport Pack.!
TV packages start from just £0/mth."
https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/tv-packages
I'm now a bit confused. Is BT Sport Pack or BT TV more expensive from now on? If it's still described as free or from £0 per month is it added to something else which will be going up in price?
Its still free, but the £0 a mth offer (which is still valid) is for a non-recording YouView box only.0 -
I would add that if you only signed up for BT Sport because it was free, and don't actually watch it, then there is a third option. You can phone up BT's cancellations department and cancel BT Sport entirely. That way there's no $5/month charge, nor any new contract to be locked in to.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
IMHO BT are out of order on this change for two reasons:
1. Because they solicited me to join them and take their BB amd phone on the basis of BT Sport channels being free. To then start charging for them mid-contract is wrong..... its like taking a mobile phone contract with 200 free minuted and unlimited free data and then all of a sudden mid contract the phone company saying "we're taking away your free minutes and data"
2. A contract (i.e. to pay £5 for BT Sport Europe) cannot be formed through the silence or inaction of one party. So as someone said earlier it should be 'do nothing, stay free' and otherwise 'click below if you do wish to pay £5 for the extra channel(s)'
On the basis of the above two points, i'll be making an official complaint to BT and when they try and fob me off, I will take it to the ombudsman.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -

And I agree with you. But its Ofcom who gave the providers the power to change contracts mid-term providing they offer the user the right to cancel with no penalty.
Sky can increase prices by up to 10% mid-term without the right to cancel. Which is something else I don't agree with.0 -

Advance Line rental is not refundable its a separate contract as well .0 -
According to Martins email, these changes mean that you can cancel your BB contracts with BT (as long as you don't have BT TV as well). And in the same email there is a deal with Sky BB for £5 for a year including line rental. Looks like a no-brainer to me. Cancel BT and switch to Sky. I don't even mind losing the 5 months balance of prepaid line rental with BT as it is effectively free from Sky.
Plus BT have great offers for new customers that they don't offer current ones. so when they next come up I can consider switching back.0 -
Martin's email suggests that all BT Broadband customers, including those who only took BT Sport because it was free, will automatically be opted in to pay £5 per month.
But the email which I received from BT a few days ago suggests that I am automatically being downgraded rather than automatically opted in to new charges that I have not agreed to:Hello, We're sending you this because you've chosen to view BT Sport via our app and online player. As you've not watched BT Sport recently, from 1 August 2015 you'll receive our new BT Sport Lite pack with access to BT Sport 1 only. This means you'll still be able to watch 38 exclusively live Barclays Premier League matches, SPFL football and Aviva Premiership Rugby for free. Visit btsport.com or log into your BT Sport app to see the latest fixtures.,
Would you think that I should still push for cancellation, or does the BT email cover me against any new charges ?0 -
Keep the email and a recording of what BT said is what i would do .0

I have just rung BT to renew my contract for 18 months to enable me to keep the sports channel for free, as they state. But No, not as simple as that. So Beware before you recontract as you will lose any current discounts.
Because my current contract runs until Feb 16 I am too early to recontract now! If I recontract I will lose all current discounts on the account and my broadband/tv package will go up £11, this is £11 extra a month to pay to get BT sport at £5 a month free?????
So why are BT advertising recontract and it's free, when clearly they are totally aware of this and know it will cost people. Total con. I was told to either cancel sport until I fall within the recontract dates, then get broadband discounts again and put the sport back on, or pay the sport fee until I come into the renewable period.
Loyal customers are getting hammered time and time again which is ridiculous.
So just beware before you recontract online or by phone and think you have a good deal of free sport - you may be paying in other ways.0
