  • 1st time posting and just wanted to give my view on this.

I received the email this morning about downgrading so I went through the process and just before I was going to place the order (to downgrade) I noticed it said, under Change to your services; 'Your BT Broadband package will be recontracted for a minimum term of 12 months'.

Naturally I didn't complete the order and then contacted BT - after reading the first 5 pages of this forum - the advisor informed me that if I do downgrade then there's a possibility my contract will be recontracted, in the latter stages this was then confirmed. She informed me that the only way to avoid this would be to cancel BT Sport. I very rarely watched anything on BT Sport so it was an easy decision for me to remove the service.

They then ask you why (do you not want top recontract) and I commenced my rant saying that the way existing customers are being treated is disgusting and so on...

Anyway that was my experience but it was very clear downgrade and be entered into a new 12 month contract, cancel and your contract stays as it is.

I agree with the poster who said about going along the complaints procedure and then taking it further to the ombudsman, but I just don't have the energy to deal with these corporate giants at the moment and will make my dissatisfaction clear to them the old-fashioned way and walk.

It appears from the most recent posts that there is no consist policy from BT to resolve this issue despite people having raised complaints to Ofcom. As MSE were promoting this deal and I believe still are promoting BT deals and there has been no comment from them I have made a complaint. They could of at least had their legal counsel Tamar make a comment to help the distressed members here. Please see below my complaint which is in blue text:

I would like to report this thread because of the disgraceful way in which BT are treating their customers. The deal being discussed was posted on MSE earlier this year and there has not been one comment never mind any condemnation of this sharp practice by BT from the staff at MSE!

Owing to this I would hope that you would highlight this to your members and reconsider posting any further deals on your site that BT has to offer in future.

I look forward to your comments

Please note on the MSE contact page there is no advice as to how to make a complaint about them. Is that an oversight or could it be a reflection upon how they view themselves?

    What OFCOM ruling ??

There has been no ruling from OFCOM .

That link is not an Ofcom ruling its a BT page .
  • I've just had my email from BT notifying me of their latest outrageous price increases and l think l'm going to take the opportunity to leave them for good. Their prices are becoming a joke.

    Which specifically?

The new price increases from 20th September including line rental going up another £1pm, broadband increases, call price increases, 1571 increases, etc, which has been featured in the weekend papers. BT are now giving any customer the opportunity to leave their contract if they're not happy by giving 30 days notice.

Someone's got to pay for the Champions League, whether you watch it or not!

Isn't this the third BT price rise in about 12 months?

Likewise I got this E-mail today. Bizarrely now they even advise on how to cancel your contract without termination fee if your not happy about it.

I have decided this is straw that's broken the Camel's back... be that this is now the third time I have had a new fee added to my contract in the space of only 6 Months. I too have given up and opted to get out. So far as I am concerned, before my existing contract is likely to run out, I could be paying in excess of £90 a week with all these additional fees they keep throwing at me.

Without a doubt, it has been the WORST contract I have ever signed up to, one which I have NO intention of ever getting involved with again.

There was a time you felt confidently safe when signing up with such large companies.

MSE's lack of interest over it does seem somewhat out of character, but I don't think they are to blame for promoting them. It is something that can easily be dealt with on this thread alone, I am sure if those at the Towers wanted to hush it up in anyway, deletion of this thread would be the first thing that would have to go. ;)
